I picked up Shout! Factory's reissue of Emerson, Lake & Palmer's "Brain Salad Surgery" and there's a problem with "Karn Evil 9-1st Impression". The sound is somewhat muffled compared to the rest of the CD (I pulled out my old LP to do a comparision and it sounded fine on that track). Sounds like a botched job to me. Anyone out there who purchased the CD notice it?

I've read that the production of "Karn Evil 9" was done by someone else... I can't recall his name at the moment, but it's someone different than the rest of the album.
"Karn Evil 9" sounds somewhat "muffled" on ALL CD versions of the album, so don't blame Shout! Factory - they did a wonderful job on all of the ELP remasters this time around. The SF improvements made to Brain Salad Surgery may have made it the *definitive* version for many. Try comparing all of the previous CD versions of the ELP catalogue and "Karn Evil 9" for yourself...your mileage may vary.

Glad I picked up the Rhino earlier this year when I was under the impression that Brain Salad Surgery was going to remixed for this reissue.

The Rhino sounds fine to me. No need to re-buy here.

When it comes to this CD I love the 5.1 DVDA. What a workout it provides to my sub-woffer. :}

I agree, The DVDA is a must for those with 5.1 systems. :)
