Hi everyone, this is my 1st thread topic start here at IMWAN. Who is/are everybody's favorite Indy or quasi recording artist(s). Either a solo singer/musician or group, who maybe not too many people are aware of. It could be musicians of the past or present. Those who really don't get the public attention that, say celebs such as Britney Spears or P. Diddy get much of.

One of my favorites is R. Stevie Moore, who some consider the Godfather of Lo-Fi, DIY home-recording. I become aware of him just this past Spring, while viewing music videos on Youtube. Moore's been making and recording his own music for over 30 years. I quickly became a fan of his music. He is very good. Here's a video link. Hope you enjoy. 8-)

Here's a younger RSM doing a fun and quirky cover version of "Chantilly Lace" (Big Bopper) on The Uncle Floyd show (another fav of mine as a kid).

Yikes!...no one else has posted yet.

Anyway, I remember seeing this performer appear as one of the back-up singers to David Bowie on SNL years ago. He looked like a comicbook character come to life.

The late, great Klaus Nomi.

Devon Sproule and Hayward Williams are two that come to mind. More later.

He was great. And still living is the great Kristian Hoffman, who wrote that song and others for Klaus Nomi.
He also played in The Mumps with Lance Loud, and is still playing and recording.

Hi GodsComic, nice to meet you. Honestly, I wasn't aware that Kristian Hoffman wrote songs for Nomi. Thanks for the information. I viewed the link and I noticed the word, "American Family". I vaguely remember this series being shown on PBS in the past. Although, I just remember watching very little of it. Interesting though.

Rich, nice to see a mention of R. Stevie Moore. This guy has a vast output of varied material, and I never understood why he didn't get more coverage in the indie press -- Moore is (literally) about as indie as it gets.

Hi Glenn. Yeah, it's true. I mean, RSM should had been a musical guest on programs such as SNL or Letterman multiple times.

Not too long ago, I purchased his Phonography album on CD. I'm planning on getting more of his music later on.

The Daisycutters!!!

One of their songs, "Sick Day" was featured in the cult australian TV series "The Secret Life Of Us" a couple of years ago and got some minor alternative radio play; but most people have still (undeservedly) never heard of them.
