I wouldn't say I ever burn out on music, but I do burn out on vocals sometimes. Then I put on a nice quiet Bill Evans album or such. Also, I can't listen to vocals when I read, but I like to put on a jazz instrumental when I read. Gerry Mulligan goes well with silver age Iron Man.

I don't burn out on music, but I DO burn out on the never ending stream of upgrades, remasters, deluxe editions, revised deluxe editions issued 3 months after the first deluxe edition, etc.

Don't get put off by that B.S. Music will always live, despite the collapse of the "major label" music biz we are witnessing today. It will just take a bit longer to sniff out the good stuff - it always has, and it's usually worth it!

Sadly, yes. I have a ton of music that I know is great that I just can't listen to anymore.

I only burn out on music at work. My boss and the secretary both love "today's hottest country hits", so that's what I hear everyday. I hate it all with a passion. So I guess I can say I burn out quickly on bad music.

I know I need an never ending supply of different artists to keep me interested in music. I get "burned out" on your basic everyday Classic Rock Radio but the invention of the IPOD has really helped.

Now I can put on any song/album my heart desires while at work. Talk about deep cuts.

I never get tired of the music in my collection. I do, however, get burned out when the music industry invents ways (either purposely or by accident) to test my patience. Those of you who read this forum on a regular basis know that this past week was not one of my favorite ones in a while.

3 comments for me:

1. I've noticed that a lot of 80's music I used to love doesn't cut it for me anymore (Madonna is 1 example, but their are lots of others). I'm mostly noticing this with 80's.

2. Most new artists don't cut it for me, but I think alot of that is the pop junk the media pushes down our throats. I've heard my teenage sister play some good alt rock on several occasions, though I don't remember any band names.

3. I think this is a getting old thing: I often work on my pc all day & listen to music. Lately, I find myself having to shut off the tunes when something challenging comes up at work or I tend to get confused & angry.

I've tried listening to music while working or concentrating on a particular task, but I just can't do it. For me, music is an activity -- if I can't give it a substantial part of my attention, it just becomes background noise.

Aside from that, there are certainly times when I don't feel like listening to anything, but I can't say I get "burned out" on music. Music is like food for my soul.

(Hmm, I think I'll start a thread on the similarities between music and food.)
