Steve Perry made them great, but he ultimately ruined them. "Raised On Radio" had some great songs, but in reality it was a Steve Perry solo album featuring two members of Journey. Yes, Perry destroyed them with that album. He took control and fired Smith and Valory, brought in sessionmen and made Raised On Radio sound like his new solo album and he even produced it. They gave him total control. Journey were never the same because of Perry. They looked ridiculous with Randy Jackson and Mike Baird on stage. Talk about a tribute band. Pineda has done a great job and obviously the fans think so or they wouldn't have been playing with him for a decade now.

I've seen the current Journey a few times and when the albums were new, they would do two songs from the newest album but yes for the past 2-3 years, it's been a Journey greatest hits tour. It makes the fans happy. Schon knows what butters his bread.

I agree that Raised On Radio wasn't very good.

I didn't like it at first. Actually, it took me years before I really started to appreciate it.
I like the whole album except for the tracks that I struck out. Of course, it's nothing compared to their previous releases.
1. "Girl Can't Help It" 2. "Positive Touch" 3. "Suzanne" 4. "Be Good to Yourself" 5. "Once You Love Somebody" 6. "Happy to Give" 7. "Raised on Radio" 8. "I'll Be Alright Without You" 9. "It Could Have Been You" 10. "The Eyes of a Woman" 11. "Why Can't This Night Go On Forever" 12. "Girl Can't Help It" (live) 13. "I'll Be Alright Without You" (live)

What band would commit suicide by featuring newer material in concert these days without a new album (they haven't had once since 2011)?
Um, none,
Your argument is tired, trite and makes no sense.
I'm sure if you were Journey's manager you'd tell them, "Guys, let's play 4 or 5 songs each off the last two albums. That should please the fans. Less hits is what they want."
And I guarantee you, if Perry was on the last two albums they wouldn't be playing a damn thing from those albums either.
It's called common business sense.
And yes, music is a business.
I know you know all this.

And really, since they're still selling tickets, it's pretty obvious the draw is the Perry-era material, and not necessarily Perry himself.

When I saw them on MTV with the new configured line-up I almost broke the TV with a sneaker toss. Loss respect for the band after that. I loved the rhythm section of Journey and Perry who once was a drummer should have known better.

I'm checking out of this thread. I respect that some want to listen to the current band; I definitely do not want to.

Journey and Asia won’t even begin their co-headlining 2017 tour until March, but they must be looking forward to traveling together – the two bands have already added a slew of dates that will keep them sharing a stage through the summer. Building on a previously announced run of shows that’s set to begin March 15 in Washington, the tour will pick up after Journey’s residency at the Hard Rock in Las Vegas, which is scheduled to take up most of May. Journey and Asia are booked to reunite starting June 5 in Tulsa, the first in a lengthy series of freshly announced shows that currently lasts until the middle of the following month, when they’ll stop in El Paso on July 15. Check out the new shows below, and visit Journey’s site for a complete list of dates, individual venue details and ticketing information. It isn’t yet known whether Asia frontman John Wetton will be part of the lineup for the tour’s summer leg. As previously reported, he was forced to pull out of the band’s spring dates — including an appearance on Yes‘ Cruise to the Edge — due to chemotherapy treatment for his ongoing cancer battle. (hennemusic) There appears to be some kind of internal rift between Journey cofounder Neal Schon and keyboard player Jonathan Cain with the guitarist sharing his displeasure via social media this past weekend. hennemusic has the following details:
Schon took to Instagram Sunday (June 4) with the following message that appeared to be directly towards Cain: "I want to be elevated by whom I play with, not feel like I've got cement shoes. If anyone is unhappy they are not running My band, then They should leave."
The comments were featured alongside an image that reads: "My journey hasn't been easy, but I'm still…standing, laughing, forgiving, loving, learning and living. I'm perfectly imperfect and unapologetically me."
Schon got more specific with some follow-up comments (which have since been deleted), writing, "I've stated how I felt about mixing Religion and Politics and how our music is not of 1 religion - Democratic or Republican. This is and has been an issue with myself Mr Cain and his now wife since he married" - a reference to Cain's wife, Pentecostal Christian televangelist Paula White.
"I've had to fight this whole time to protect the Brand I built with Steve Perry way before Gregg and I picked Cain to replace himself when he wanted to retire from the road back then," he added. "Well frankly, I'm tired of having to defend all by myself. [Bassist] Ross [Valory] is no help. I continue to grow and be completely creative and want to take the band Neal Schon's JRNY on an exciting new trip musically.
"Yes we will always have all hits to play But there must be musical growth also. I also need to surround myself with people that care as I do. I'll never stop."
Schon also added a comment to another Instagram post featuring a live image of the guitarist and singer Arnel Pineda that reads: "We all come from somewhere - some of us remember - I do. Thank you Carlos and Gregg", referring to his days with keyboardist Gregg Rolie in Carlos Santana's band before the pair started Journey in 1973. Read Cain's apparent response and some following up posts from Arnel

Whenever a band member's wife or girlfriend enters the picture...watch out!
This religious chick sounds like a nut and she's converted Cain.
All so very Spinal Tap.

Yeesh. I hate to read this because it'll definitely be the end of this current Journey. Cain is a very important part of this band, and as such..... this is sad.

What's the likelihood of Rolie replacing his replacement?

But after Schon also blasted Valory, I think they may have too much animosity to continue. These guys fired Jeff Scott Soto by a fax after all. I don't think they are very good people.

Even a casual viewing of the first half or so of the Don't Stop Believin': Everyman's Journey makes it abundantly clear where the egos in the band reside.
Agreed that the band is operating squarely in Spinal Tap territory at this point.

Cain is a talented musician and songwriter, but he's always come off to me as an arrogant dick. He was in the right place at the right time when The Babys were touring with Journey in 1980 and just walked into a career and life changing opportunity.
I'm not saying Schon is easy to get along with, I'm sure, but at this point, Cain should just keep his politics and religion to himself, show up for work and collect his paycheck.
As for Rolie possibly returning? Who knows. I know the reason he left in 1980 was that he saw the handwriting on the wall with Perry, so maybe he'd be amenable to coming back.

I agree, Cain always came across as an ass, but I also agree with Renny that Schon is an ego-maniac. The money keeps them going and not friendships. They are a weird bunch. I wonder how much Arnel can take. Steve Smith is such a good guy, and I'm not surprised he's been quiet.
