All of the problems being discussed have a simple solution, and that solution is named Paul Rodgers.

What's wrong with that?

Really, Gregg Rolie is back in the band now?

Not poking fun at you, just pointing out that different people might have a differing opinion on what constitutes the "classic lineup"

MY classic lineup is Rolie, Schon, Valory and Dunbar.

IP, is there any remasters of the pre-Perry lineup? If so, which ones to get?

None that I know of unless Japan has done them and they probably have.

A Legacy Complete Albums Box would solve that problem!

I love those first 3 albums.

If Vic Anesini would master a Complete Albums box then I would definitely be in. Sounds like the last batch of Journey remasters were mastered by different people and some of them were really good and some weren't very good at all (second-hand information as I have heard none of them). The thing that works against the release of something like this is that most of these CDs can be had dirt cheap on an individual basis. Almost all of them can be bought at Amazon for less than 6 bucks. Would also have to watch as most of the remasters have bonus tracks...hopefully those wouldn't be deleted from a Complete Albums collection (thankfully bonus material stayed on the BOC box set).

I have most of the remasters and they definitely are hit and miss. They're not bad, per se, but some are better than others. I think, and I could be wrong, that it was what the mastering engineer had to work with. One of my fave Journey albums is Evolution and it doesn't sound as good as I know it could. I seriously think that it needs a remix. The Escape remaster sounds good.

But yeah.... if they did a complete box set, that would be a very huge seller. The BOC set was a big seller, mostly because half of the BOC catalogue hadn't been remastered until that was released.

Re remasters: The Perry era ones are too loud for me. Especially greatest hits; I strongly recommend the 1988 15 track original.

There is a 2004 Japan remaster of Next. I've only played it on the computer, so can't comment on the sound. It is a DR11, so should be ok.

The 2004 appears to only include the original cover art + the various Japanese stuff. They list "Bruce Botnick" as mastering engineer, but I suspect he did the original master & may or may not have done this 2004 (which may also be a reissue rather than remaster, I don't know). The UPC is 4562109406047.

The Journey remasters were OK.

I think the whole catalogue needs a sonic overhaul.

A Journey box with some live discs and rare discs like the BOC box would be massive.

they were oK except that there was a gap inserted between 'lovin touchin sqeezin' and 'city of the angles' on the remaster.

i emailed the old ICE watchdog about this and they never addressed it. i don;t know if was ever fixed or if the gap is still there.

it ruined the album flow, ruined it.

I don't know why as I love Captured; but all other Perry era concerts I've heard haven't been as enjoyable musically for me.

I'm glad someone else noticed that besides me. It wasn't a big deal for me, but it was definitely noticeable on the very first listen. It's like leaving a gap between Feeling That Way and Anytime

It's still there. I haven't ripped the album yet for my iPod, but I plan to edit that track when I do. That gap is so out of place.

The UK remaster of Dan Reed Network's Mercury Debut did the same thing between the first 2 tracks & I also find it irritating.

I've been wanting to see Journey fronted by Arnel for several years (I did see them fronted by Steve Augeri). I think "Eclipse" is one of the best things they ever did!

Steve Perry made them great, but he ultimately ruined them. "Raised On Radio" had some great songs, but in reality it was a Steve Perry solo album featuring two members of Journey.

so tell me this......and i am not trying to be a smart-ass in any way shape or form....why doesn't the now touring journey tribute band play one single song off of any of the 4 things they have done without perry?
