I can't tell you why, but I find his voice irritating. I thought they were a great singles band pre-McDonald.

McDonald always sounds like he's got a mouthful of marbles when he's singing.
Having said that, I like a few of his songs with and without the Doobies.

That is one killer Journey lineup! I've been dying to see them fronted by Arnel Pineda.

Journey keyboardist Jonathan Cain says "door's always been open" for former singer Steve Perry to return – even if only for the Rock Hall ceremony
Journey's Jonathan Cain says Steve Perry should perform with them if they get the final nod for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction.
The band have been shortlisted alongside Yes, Bad Brains, Pearl Jam and Depeche Mode among others. Inductees will be announced in December with the induction ceremony set for next April at Brooklyn's Barclays Center.
Keyboardist Cain says they'd welcome the former vocalist, who left in 1998, back for a performance at the ceremony.
He tells The Pulse Of Radio (via Blabbermouth): "The door's always been open for him to join us any time he wanted. I mean, that has to happen. That band has to play. They have to play their music – two songs and I think we get to do two or three. That's how it works."
But Cain also admits he thinks it's "wrong" that current singer Arnel Pineda wasn't invited by the Rock Hall – and he says they'll lobby for his inclusion if they're inducted. Deep Purple were involved in a similar tug-of-war over Rock Hall's lineup selection earlier this year.
He tells Billboard: "I don't think it's fair. There is no Journey without Arnel right now. He certainly has earned his stripes.
"He's been with us longer than any lead singer has consecutively stayed in the band. He's given us 10 years straight, not running off or doing this, doing that, just being The Guy. So that's worth something."
Rumours of a classic lineup reunion were sparked last year after drummer Deen Castronovo was fired amid a domestic violence incident, and the band brought back Steve Smith. But guitarist Neal Schon said: "Steve Perry does not want to return. It’s a hard gig.”
Perry had also said his tenure with Journey was over, adding that "it had run its course" – though Pineda says he'd stand aside to let the singer reclaim his "righteous place."
Journey tour dates 2016/2017 Nov 19: Scottsdale Talking Stick Resort, AZ Feb 01: Osaka Prefecture, Japan Feb 06: Chiyoda Nippon Budokan, Japan

Just another reason why bands should be inducted as an entity, not as a specific lineup.

How Dio didn't get in with Sabbath is beyond me, yet virtually every Grateful Dead member (if not all) are in. I'm fine with the Dead, but Kiss, Sabbath, Purple should have all members in too.

I can't comment on Kiss; but would DP have gotten in based solely on their non Blackmore material?
While I like almost everything DP has done, imo there was a huge drop from oh my god awesome to very good when Blackmore left the first time & only Perfect Strangers came close to that level (when Blackmore returned). I really like the current band & moments from the Hughes/Coverdale/Bolin band, but hof at least in sports is supposed to only be for the absolute Cream of the crop; not the "pretty good" ones.
Same ? re: Sabbath & non Ozzy. IMO, Sabbath's 1st 2 albums were miles better than anything they did afterwards (though I own several more than that).

But when you induct a solo artist, presumably you're inducting their whole career. It should be the same for bands.

We should never argue about who is worthy to get into Jann Wenner's sham hall.

i was never a big black sabbath fan, never really a metal fan actually, but black sabbath deserves recognition for their career in a building dedicated to rock music a thousand times more than any rap act. and i have very much softened my stance on rap in recent years as the women bash, profanity soaked lyrics seemed to have diminished a bit (although i can't say for sure because i never liste to it, but my students tell me it has).but i still cannot condone rap in the rock hall in any way shape or form. and is there anyone on planet earth who doesn't think tupac will get it this year? he is their deity for goodness sakes. in fact i would bet on him finishing first in the voting.

Yes, Tupac will get in right away. Yes, Wenner is a thousand douches rolled into one.

Definitely. Heaven and Hell stands right with Black Sabbath and Paranoid as the most "respected" Black Sabbath albums.

Journey have announced dates for a spring 2017 US tour with Asia and their return to Las Vegas in May for a nine-show residency at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.
The band will perform a dozen concerts with Asia starting in Yakima, WA on March 15 and wrapping up in Dayton, OH on April 4.
“Asia is honored to be asked to share the stage with Journey,” says Asia lead vocalist and cancer survivor John Wetton. “On a personal note, this couldn’t have come at a better time for me; I remain determined and my road to a full recovery continues. I look forward to seeing everyone on the tour next year.”
Presales for select shows will begin December 6 at 10:00 a.m. local time with VIP packages available. Tickets for most shows will go on sale December 9 at 10:00 a.m. local time.
Following a successful run in 2015, Journey will return to The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas for a second, nine-show residency entitled “Journey Las Vegas.”
The band will perform its seventh studio album, 1981’s “Escape”, and their eighth studio album, 1983’s “Frontiers”, in their entirety on select dates during the Vegas appearance.
Shows will run from Wednesday, May 3 to Saturday, May 20.
Tickets for “Journey Las Vegas” will go on sale December 9 at 10 a.m. PST.
Journey were recently named among the nominees for induction into the 2017 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, alongside Pearl Jam, the Electric Light Orchestra, The Cars, Jane’s Addiction and others.
The final list of 2017 inductees will be announced later this month.

it fails to mention that they will be without the singer who originally sang every one of those songs.
unless...................................they get into the rock hall by then and the original lead singer decides he might want to sing those songs again.........................................what would those tix be worth?

Let's see...Perry left in 1987. Came back from 1995-98. Left again. It's been almost 20 frickin' years since he left (again). Safe to say fans are aware.
