(hennemusic) A trial date has been set for Journey drummer Deen Castronovo following a pair of arrests last month relating to an alleged domestic dispute in Salem, Oregon.

The Statesman Journal reports that Castronovo will appear before Marion County Circuit Judge Thomas Hart on October 22 at 9 a.m. for a two-day trial.

Castronovo was initially arrested on June 14 and charged with fourth-degree assault, coercion and menacing in the early morning incident. The drummer was released on $20,000 bail and was ordered to have no contact with the victim.

Following his June 15 release, according to Deputy District Attorney Jennifer Gardiner, Castronovo sent 122 text messages to the victim and called her 35 times.

The drummer was arrested on a grand jury indictment on June 29 that stated the alleged abuse took place between April 25 and June 29. Castronovo was arraigned June 30 on five counts of fourth-degree assault, one count of first-degree rape, two counts of menacing, one count of unlawful use of a weapon, one count of second-degree assault, one count of second-degree sex abuse, one count of coercion, one count of second-degree criminal mischief, and three counts of contempt of court, according to the indictment.

At a bail hearing July 1 details of the alleged domestic violence were revealed.

Because I'm admittedly coming to this with a large bias, I will withhold comment until after I've played it; other then to state my ears say it's badly brickwalled. That was also the case with the last batch of Journey cd remasters. I went out of my way to find an original best of cd & tossed or sold my remaster after buying the remaster & finding it unlistenable.

Edit: my ears were right, it's a DR7. I HATE it when they do that to hi res releases, it defeats the entire purpose of hi-res (to sound more like real music).

I lied. Between the mediocre music & the horrible brickwalling I only made it through 4 songs.

Keep in mind for me it isn't just the no name singer. I wasn't all that fond of Raised on Radio & really didn't like Trial By Fire.

This kind of sounds like someone trying to imitate classic 80's Journey; i.e. IMO Cain & Schon have lost there songwriting skills. That & the brickwalling bothers me a lot more then the Perry soundalike vocalist.

I listen to this album now and then on my commute. While I'm listening, I think it's not bad. Steve Augeri is a pretty good singer, and the songs are okay in my opinion. The three problems I have with Arrival are 1.) it's too long, 2.) many of the songs sound too similar to previous hits (smacks of desperation to capture old glory), and 3.) I cannot remember a single song afterwards (neither a title nor a melody). That last one bothers me the most, because the lasting impression is that the album doesn't matter and that maybe I would have enjoyed listening to something else more.

I like Arrival. Everything after that is kind of stale. It took a few listens admittedly, but after that I grew to really like the disc. I think it beats the hell out of Trial By Fire.

I prefer Arnel to Augeri. The last album was pretty good, but probably too hard and aggressive to appeal to the masses.

Let's face it, it's been "Journey" since 1998 and will likely be that way until Schon and Cain give it up for good.

The following "tweet" came out today:

Andrew McNeice

I know it's vital information. So stay tuned for the announcement of who will occupy the drummer's stool for Journey for the next 2 years.

Wow.

One would imply (if they are a fan) that Steve Smith is back.

Very cool news.

Nope-I'm implying it's him.

One could infer it too.

But I'm implying it from my inferring it.

The issue I have with inferring something is you can never count on it, no matter how much you like it. You can prefer to infer, you can rely if you imply when you reply.

I bequeath a most ubiquitous, obtuse yet acute statement to Alan:

You are quite the loquacious, abstract, yet not obsolete fellow.

This is not in congruent to my other thoughts which are mostly salacious and capricious with a hint of Asiago.

(hennemusic) Former Journey drummer Steve Smith has rejoined the band as they announce the San Francisco Fest 2016 tour with The Doobie Brothers and guest Dave Mason.

Smith played with Journey during their commercial peak from 1978 to 1985, and returned a decade later for a second stint from 1995-98. Through the years, Smith has appeared on several of Journey guitarist Neal Schon's solo albums, including 2012's "The Calling" and 2015's "Vortex."

The news follows the summer 2015 firing of Deen Castronovo after domestic violence charges stemming from a pair of arrests earlier this year in Salem, Oregon.

Castronovo eventually plead guilty to two counts of fourth-degree assault constituting domestic violence, two counts of menacing constituting domestic violence, unlawful use of a weapon and coercion. The drummer received a suspended sentence and four years of probation.

The 4-month San Francisco Fest 2016 tour across North American will begin May 12 in Irvine, CA. "It's gonna be a great summer for fans of Bay Area music, and for guys like us who have the pleasure of teaming up with our good friends from Journey and the Dave Mason Band," said Tom Johnston and Patrick Simmons of The Doobie Brothers. "We look forward to taking the stage with Journey. We love their songs, and think we will all complement each other musically. It is going to be a powerful tour. We can't wait to share it with the fans!"

Maybe somebody should tell Johnston and Simmons that their band isn't really The Doobie Brothers since Michael McDonald is no longer with them.

Michael McDonald was fine replacement for the Doobies Brothers Mk II version but the Johnston/Simmons was the Doobies Brothers for me.
