It's nice to see that Gramm and Jones have reconciled and are at least friends again. And Gramm isn't knocking the current Foreigner in order to make his point.

Foreigner leader Mick Jones says he’s discussing a reunion with vocalist Lou Gramm to mark 40th anniversary

Foreigner leader Mick Jones is talking to former vocalist Lou Gramm about a reunion to mark the band’s 40th anniversary.

The pair have settled their differences in recent years, performing together at an awards ceremony in 2013, after a fall-out in 2003.

Jones tells One On One With Mitch Lafon: “It’s quite possible. We’ve actually been talking about it. I’m not at a point where I can say it’s definitely going to happen, but we’re trying to make it happen.

“It’s kind of exciting – hopefully it’s be possible to pull it off next year.”

The anniversary lineup could also include original men Ian McDonald, Al Greenwood, Dennis Elliott and Rick Wills. Bassist Ed Gagliardi died in 2014.

Jones says: “We’ve kept up sort of a loose communication. My people and myself are physically putting it together now, trying to find the right venues that would make sense for us.”

He accepts that the disagreements that led to his split with Gramm were fuelled by “little adventures in the drug area, and alcohol,” adding: “Deep down I always had a great love for Lou, as a friend, as a coworker, as a musician, vocally, and as a lyricist too. It was just a tough, tough period — and unnecessary in a way.”

Jones also reports that the current Foreigner lineup are planning to release new material in 2017. They’re planning a European tour this summer.

Weird way to be doing an anniversary tour. Seems to me that if this is the 40th anniversary of the first album release, the surviving members should be playing every show and let the fill in guys sit this one out.

FOREIGNER To Be Joined By LOU GRAMM And Other Original Members At Select 40th-Anniversary Shows

January 8, 2017

According to Billboard, FOREIGNER will be joined by original members Lou Gramm, Ian McDonald and Al Greenwood on select dates on the band's 40th-anniversary tour this summer. Support on the trek, which kicks off July 11 in Syracuse and runs through through September 9 in Auburn, Washington, will come from CHEAP TRICK and JASON BONHAM'S LED ZEPPELIN EXPERIENCE.

"[Gramm, McDonald and Greenwood are] not on the whole tour, but there will be some appearances," FOREIGNER guitarist Mick Jones told Billboard. "It's the right time to do this. I'm looking forward to that and we'll see how it goes, and I'm sure it'll go down well."

Tickets for the tour go on sale January 13 via Live Nation.

To coincide with the tour, FOREIGNER — Mick Jones (lead guitar), Kelly Hansen (lead vocals), Jeff Pilson (bass, vocals), Tom Gimbel (rhythm guitar, sax, vocals), Michael Bluestein (keyboards), Bruce Watson (guitar) and Chris Frazier (drums) — will release a celebratory 40th-anniversary album, titled "40 - Forty Hits From Forty Years" (Rhino), that features forty FOREIGNER tracks throughout the years. This album is a comprehensive compilation of original hits and several tracks from the current lineup with Kelly Hansen on vocals, including "Can't Slow Down", "Too Late" and the Top 20 AC hit "When It Comes To Love". The album also features two new songs, "The Flame Still Burns" and "Give My Life For Love", a brand new song by Jones. Rhino is kicking off a year-long catalog promotion with the January 24 picture disc release of "Head Games".

Prior to the summer tour, FOREIGNER will play a number of U.S. concerts beginning on January 30, and will embark on a European tour in late May.

"A Foreigner's Tale", the band's first-ever official biography, will be made available in various formats, including a limited edition. Produced in conjunction with Rocket 88 Books, it tells the story of FOREIGNER in the words of Jones.

As previously reported, Jones was joined by Gramm, Greenwood and McDonald for the December 5, 2016 platinum plaque presentation of 2008's "No End In Sight: The Very Best Of Foreigner" (Atlantic Records/Rhino Entertainment), a double-disc collection featuring the band's biggest hits, including "Feels Like The First Time", "Cold As Ice", "Hot Blooded" and "I Want To Know What Love Is". It also includes a brand new song, "Too Late", as well as live performances by the current lineup that features Jones, lead singer Kelly Hansen, bassist Jeff Pilson, rhythm guitarist/saxophonist Tom Gimbel, and keyboardist Michael Bluestein.

I saw this on FB today.

I'm guessing there's no way Gramm could handle a whole tour and this is out of respect to Hansen for the awesome job he has done.

I'm fine with it and seeing Greenwood and McDonald will be great.

Gagliardi passed away, and I guess Elliot didn't want to come out of retirement.

The inclusion of Bonham is obviously due to his years with Foreigner and relationship with Mick.

Problem is, what dates will the original guys appear?

So hit or miss - guessing the originals will appear at shows near where they currently reside. With or without the originals, I'd love this show with Cheap Trick and Bonham's band.
My personal problem is that Foreigner are playing near me just BEFORE the big tour starts. Bummer.

About that tour...

Lou Gramm is denying published reports that he will join Foreigner on select upcoming 40th anniversary tour dates.
“I have not been asked to join any part of the summer 40th Foreigner anniversary tour,” Gramm wrote on Twitter. Ultimate Classic Rock reached out to Foreigner’s team for a comment and will update this story when they respond.

Billboard reported that a trio of Foreigner’s original members, including Gramm, would join the band this summer. Cheap Trick and former drummer Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience share the bill, which reportedly would also feature guest turns by Gramm’s fellow departed Foreigner co-founders Ian McDonald and Al Greenwood.

Gramm is also firing back at another recent story that seems to confirm his imminent retirement. He’s quoted by the Democrat and Chronicle as saying “I’m tired of the business. It’s time to hang up the mic.” Gramm then initially issued a tweet labeling that report “lies,” but then softened his stance by admitting that he was caught off guard by the question.

— Lou Gramm (@GrammLou) January 9, 2017

In the same piece, Gramm says he received a call from co-founding Foreigner guitarist Mick Jones‘ manager, who said there had been “some kind of mix-up,” and that Jones hadn’t meant to indicate that Gramm would be joining his old band for some concerts this year.

Foreigner’s summer tour kicks off on July 11 and includes nearly 40 stops. Jones told Billboard that a two-disc, 40-track compilation featuring some new material is also set for release this year, along with his memoir, A Foreigner’s Tale.

They will be at Jones Beach on July 20th and I will most probably attend even if Lou Gramm doesn't make it. 3 good bands at a good price is what Jones Beach is all about.

So now it's one show for a song or two.

OK then.

I'm, fine without Lou there so it doesn't matter.

I'll probably pass though as I've seen Foreigner and Cheap Trick enough and it's going to be 75 minutes of hits.

No need for me to see that again.

It usually ends up being a Groupon for the Jones Beach show at a very nice price (as long as you don't mind the upper deck) so I will probably go (love all the bands).

Foreigner Original Lineup Reunion? Mick Jones Says 'Thoughts Are Flowing Around'

Though it's purely "conjecture" at this point, there may be more reunions ahead for members of Foreigner's classic lineup.

Original lead singer Lou Gramm, multi-instrumentalist Ian McDonald and keyboardist Al Greenwood played a three-song encore with the current Foreigner on July 20 at Jones Beach in Wantagh, NY -- the latter two's first appearance with Foreigner since 1980 and Gramm's first since 2003. Drummer Dennis Elliott, meanwhile, joined Foreigner at a recent show in Tampa. Now group founder and guitarist Mick Jones tells Billboard it may not be the last we see of everyone together again.

"Oh, it's definitely crossed my mind," Jones says. "I think it's something the fans would love. It'd be interesting, the contrast of the two styles of the two bands. I think it would be appealing. It's not carved in whatever things are carved in, but the thoughts are flowing around. But I'm still not quite sure how to forecast it."

However, Jones reveals, there are plans for the surviving original lineup members and second bassist Rick Wills (his predecessor Ed Gagliardi died in 2014) to get together in Michigan this fall for a session that will be filmed, according to Jones, though no firm details have yet been announced.

"One thing for sure is all the musicians are getting on very well together and it's just refreshing and we're really enjoying it," adds Jones, who reunited with Gramm when the duo was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2013. "Lou is good, and he's kept his voice. Al and Ian are playing the same as they did 40 years ago, basically, and it's a hoot. It's great adrenaline and very enjoyable. I think there's no bad apple anywhere in the whole thing, so I can't see any big problems."

Jones is equally ebullient about Foreigner's current 40th anniversary run, which is touring North America this summer after a spring run in Europe. "I have to say it's just wonderful," he notes. "It feels like the early '80s. The crowds are flocking in everywhere. Nearly everywhere's a sellout and people just want to be out there and have fun with us. The party atmosphere is undeniable. It feels like the old days back again, so it's going tremendously well. I'm just so happy."

Jones -- who also published the memoir A Foreigner's Tale this year -- predicts the energy from the tour may even send Foreigner back into the studio to make some new music, the group's first since Can't Slow Down in 2009. "It just requires a bit of time to concentrate on writing, which I will have coming up early next year," Jones says. "I've got a bunch of unfinished ideas and some ideas for song titles which I can throw around and see what we've got. We're trying to put a schedule together that makes sense and try to see what we'll come up with."

I welcome a reunion in a big way only if Lou can sing.

Having Lou, Ian, Al, Dennis and Rick back in there would be really cool.

If the reunion happens, I promise Pete that I'll retire using "quotation marks" in reference to...you know.

Lou, Al and Ian did appear with Foreigner at the Jones Beach show last month and boy was that a treat for us original fans. Though Lou does not look like he could withstand a tour of any measure but in spots, he can still sing the songs (though Kelly Hanson is a great replacement singer).

I agree on Lou.

He sounded pretty good first song and then not as good.

I've seen Foreigner with Lou many times, so I'm good, but one more time would be fun if he can pull it off.

And yes, Hansen is great with the band and he had to know this was coming.

No, you can use them since Ed Gagliardi isn't around anymore.

This is all I want from these classic bands who have "displaced" members. (Hmm, that doesn't sound right.) Just be civil towards one another, and appreciate/be proud of the work you created with each other. There don't have to be reunions, but mutual respect would be a welcome thing. Unfortunately, even that seems too challenging for some of our favorite musicians. It's heartening to see that the past & present members of Foreigner are bucking the trend by playing nice.

A lot of guys are managing it. The guys in Blue Öyster Cult (particularly Eric and Albert) used to detest each other after Albert got booted, but they've been pretty chummy lately.

Foreigner, Whitesnake and Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Evening have announced that they will be teaming up next summer for the North American Juke Box Heroes Tour.

The trek is scheduled to kick off on June 15th in Bangor, ME at Darling's Waterfront Pavilion and will run until August 1st where it will wrap up in Irvine, CA at the Five Point Amphitheater.

Foreigner's Mick Jones had this to say, "I'm excited to join forces with my fellow U.K. countrymen, David Coverdale and Jason Bonham, for what's sure to be a rockin' summer tour in the States."

Whitesnake frontman David Coverdale says, "We are truly excited and looking forward to playing in 2018 with our friends, Foreigner and Jason Bonham, on their North American tour."

Jason Bonham adds, "Being part of Foreigner's 40th Anniversary Tour last summer was wonderful. Opening a show like that was very special to me, so when Mick asked if I'd do it again in 2018, I said yes without hesitation. I'm excited that Whitesnake will be filling out the middle slot this time as I've known David since I was 14 years old. It's going to be a WHOLE LOTTA FUN!"
