Just out of interest, does anyone know which label/artist catalogues that Charly/licensemusic/songseekers actually own? (as opposed to what they claim to own)

(Apologies if this is too hot a topic...)

I don't think they own anything. They simply license the music or just release it anyway illegally. The Jimi Hendrix Albert Hall show is an example as is The Chess Masters which are owned by Universal Music.

They keep releasing the Funkadelic Warner Brothers catalog and they don't have a right to it. Not only that but they've managed to make over a dozen "best of" cds out if this material and the Funkadelic WB catalog is only 4 albums.

Hmmm I thought there was some stuff that they actually do own? (I have some vague recollection of someone saying they own the rights to the Immediate catalogue outside the UK, for example)

They do. And Snapper owns Charly now, which in itself must prove at least some legitimacy?

I always thought Snapper was just Charly under another guise, like licensemusic and songseekers?

While some of the Snapper releases have seemed a bit dicey at times; other then the Tom Waits Ebbets Field (I'm pretty sure Snapper or Pilot/NMC did that one?) I've never heard of any legal action taken against them & back in the day I used to sell a lot of Snapper titles.
