the inevitable "what 4 -5 songs will he do" starts here:
1 - born to run
2 - born in the USA
3 - the rising
4 - thunder road
5 (my sleeper) a 60's cover song - maybe R & B (double shot of my baby's love, soul man)

All I can say is Mel & Tim's "Backfield In Motion"! Likely setlist? -"Glory Days"-with words changed to say "football player or quarterback" instead of baseball player or "Born To Run" -"Thunder Road" -"The Rising" -"Badlands" But I'm still prayin' that Bruce and Steve squeeze in "Backfield In Motion". That would be so cool.

They won't be playing 5 songs unless it's a medley-most likely it will be a medley, or perhaps 3 full songs. However, Bruce and the boys are a geat choice for the Super Bowl.

Mike Appel tried to get the Super Bowl to put Bruce on back in the 70s. Apparently when turned down he told the guy what an idiot he was and how much he'd regret it. Only 35 years later and it all came true!

I have to agree. With Bruce performing for the biggest audience of his career (televison-wise and with the possible exception of the 9/11 broadcast which was seen by huge numbers), I have serious doubts that Bruce would want "Born In The USA" to be misinterpreted as a jingoistic piece like it did back in '84-'85 again. The song requires a peformance context in order for the full impact of what the song is all about to hit accurately in an audience's mind. The Super Bowl would not be a good place for that to occur.

I think Mr. Springsteen should perform a cover of Bruce Springstone's "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" during the half time show at the Super Bowl No. 43 in Tampa, Florida which will be broadcasted through the airwaves of the National Broadcasting Company whose head quarters are at 30 Rock. Plaza in New York.

Oct 29, 2008
Bruce Springsteen has cancelled his annual Halloween celebration at his New Jersey mansion.
In a posting on his website, The Boss said that he and his wife Patti Scialfa were forced to abandon their usual Halloween tradition because it has become too successful.
He wrote: "So as not to inconvenience you this Halloween, due to 'catastrophic success' (read: too many visitors for the neighborhood to handle) and concern for the safety of kids and parents! we won't be having our usual Halloween display this year in Rumson.
"We wish everyone a safe and Happy Halloween!"
Meanwhile, Springsteen, who recently wrapped up a world tour in support of his album 'Magic', has been performing at Vote For Change rallies in support of US presidential candidate Barack Obama.
He is also set to perform with the E Street Band at the Super Bowl in Tampa, Florida on February 1, as previously reported.

Man! Bruce and Patti must have had their place lit up like Snoopy did in A Charlie Brown Christmas to draw that kind of attention. I wonder if Bruce still has the coffin he came out of at the L.A. Sports Arena back in '84? I think he came out of a coffin at the Sports Arena back in '81 as well (come to think of it).

Nov 11, 2008
Bruce Springsteen is appearing in a new ad campaign for the Community Food Bank of New Jersey.
As a longtime supporter of the organisation that provides food to needy families throughout his home state, The Boss has now agreed to let it use his likeness in an ad that says "We Can't Let This Bank Fail!"
The ad states that the current economic crisis has left many people jobless and unable to afford to put food on their tables, and encourages people to make donations, saying "The payoff will feed your soul."
In the backdrop of the black-and-white ad, Springsteen is leaning against his pickup truck looking into the camera.Attachment: ___brooce11467.jpg

Rolling Stone has an article on the forthcoming album in its current issue; I thought this bit about the subsequent tour would be of particular interest to Springsteen fans. Quote: Springsteen and the E Street Band will tour behind the new album, following their Super Bowl halftime set on February 1st. A source says the tour will not be "a total marathon," probably 50 to 60 shows divided between the U.S. and Europe. One idea under consideration is a miniset each night devoted to a full performance of one of Springsteen's classic albums -- "a way of addressing the past," the source says.

It's not love of football that attracts The BossNancy Gay, Chronicle Staff Writer Thursday, January 29, 2009 http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.c ... 15JQG5.DTLFans of Bruce Springsteen no longer have to wonder whether The Boss is an NFL fan. He isn't. Springsteen admitted Thursday that he doesn't follow the game that much. "When I think Steelers," he said, "I think Terry Bradshaw." Who cares? After years of speculation, Springsteen and his E Street Band will finally be the halftime headliner at a Super Bowl, taking the stage for about 12 minutes Sunday in the middle of Super Bowl XLIII at Raymond James Stadium. Why now? "Well, No. 1, we have a new album coming out, dummy!" Springsteen responded during a rare news conference for him and his band, sending the packed crowd in the Tampa Convention Center into fits of laughter. "So we have our mercenary reasons besides our deep love of football." So The Boss is an artist and a comedian. But he's also a businessman - that album, Working on a Dream, debuted this week. It's the band's first release since Magic in 2007. The band, worshiped for its marathon shows, will play an abbreviated halftime set. He wouldn't reveal his playlist, but Springsteen said it's his call for what he says will be "a 12-minute party." "I'm The Boss!" Springsteen bellowed with a huge grin on his face, gesturing to his band members who appeared with him onstage. "The Boss decides. Nobody else decides. People suggest, hint, beg, cajole ... but I decide!" He turns 60 on Sept. 23, but the man never ages. Getting him to the Super Bowl stage is a major coup for the NFL, which has played host to Prince, U2, Tom Petty, the Rolling Stones and Janet Jackson's bare breast in recent years. It's a long way from the early years, when saccharine halftime shows featuring "Up With People" sent football fans off to the bathroom in droves. NFL moderator Brian McCarthy noted the rarity of Thursday's public appearance, saying it was Springsteen's first news conference since he appeared at an Amnesty International program in 1987.

Springsteen's old manager Mike Appel reputedly tried to get him booked for the Super Bowl back in the early 70s before anybody had heard of him. When they turned him down Appel went into an expletive-filled tirade, telling them how sorry they'd be that they missed out on the next big thing. I remember hearing about it around the time of Born to Run and thinking, Rock bands at the Super Bowl? Makes no sense!
