Quote: Tommy Lee quits Mötley Crüe
Tommy Lee has quit US rockers Motley Crue in a row over a lawsuit.
Lee’s former band-mates Mick Mars, Vince Neil and Nikki Sixx had filed a lawsuit against Lee’s manager, Carl Stubner, over a dispute over payments, prompting Lee to tender his resignation.
In a statement, Lee said that he had: “recently informed Sixx and Mars, the shareholders of Motley Crue, Inc., that he was resigning from the band and his resignation was accepted.
“Mr Lee has not made any allegations against his current personal manager,” the statement continued. “Mr Lee feels fortunate to have been part of the reunion tour, as well as other opportunities outside of over the past several years.
“It is unfortunate that others believe that they all could have made more money had Mr Lee exclusively participated in the band that he co-founded in 1980.” http://www.nme.com/news/motley-crue/31100

Why doesn't Tommy just challenge them all to a fist fight? Oh...wait...that might not work for him!

I dunno - Mick can barely move (cuz he's sick), Vince could barely move (cuz he was fat) and Nikki.... well, Nikki might give him a fight.

Well, that was fast: Quote: Tommy Lee not quitting Motley Crue after all?
Following reports earlier today (September 13) that Tommy Lee was quitting his band Motley Crue, Lee has issued another statement retracting his resignation.
Initially it appeared that the drummer was leaving the band in a row over a lawsuit, but now he seems to want to work things out.
In his latest statement he said: "I am a founding member of Motley Crue. I have tried to meet with my band-mates repeatedly without success but have informed them that I'm not walking away from my band of 25 years."
"It troubles me that the current legal issues which were filed by the corporations against my personal manager are separating us and causing more dysfunction. I hope we can work this out amongst ourselves." http://www.nme.com/news/tommy-lee/31122

http://ultimateclassicrock.com/motley-c ... rs-morgan/Motley Crue Discuss Heroin Addiction, Jack Daniels With ‘Piers Morgan’ by: Joe Robinson
Video clips from Friday’s Motley Crue appearance on CNN’s ‘Piers Morgan Tonight’ have surfaced online, showing the band in fine form as they discuss a wide variety of topics, from heroin addiction and an incident that somehow involved IVing Jack Daniels to their current sobriety (Vince Neil admits he still drinks occasionally — which we already knew).
The Crue stopped by ‘Piers’ briefly on Thursday to announce an upcoming residency in Las Vegas at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in February of 2012, then returned Friday for a longer segment that offered a bit of a peak into the life of Motley Crue.
Nikki Sixx says his heroin addiction, which he chronicled in ‘The Heroin Diaries,’ started because heroin “was just there.” He continues: “We wanted to experience everything and I have a very addictive personality and those things don’t go together well. I had to get away from it. All that stuff makes you who you are today.”
Sixx says he quit after multiple trips to rehab and multiple overdoses. One day a “light just went on and it was over. I never picked up again. It was hard. I had to go through withdrawal. I knew it didn’t want this. I loved my band. I didn’t have any family back then. I didn’t want to throw it away.”
As for those IV injections of whiskey — well kids, as Piers Morgan says, don’t try this at home. “We thought it was a good idea,” Sixx told Morgan. “I went to sleep quickly. It only happened once.” Drummer Tommy Lee then goes a long way in verbalizing exactly what everybody was thinking at home: “There was really no reason to inject it,” Lee says.

http://ultimateclassicrock.com/motley-c ... residency/Motley Crue Announce Las Vegas Residency by: Matthew Wilkening
Sin City, the rumors are true! Motley Crue announced that they will be performing a residency at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in February of 2012. For their sakes, we can only be grateful this didn’t happen 30 years ago, before they become more responsible adults. “Can you imagine? They let us loose in our own building,” enthuses drummer Tommy Lee, with bassist Nikki Sixx declaring, “We cant wait, we think this is gonna be the ultimate Motley Crue experience.”
The band announced the residency, which will cover 12 dates between Feb. 3 and 19, in a brief segment at the end of CNN’s ‘Piers Morgan Tonight.’ Ironically, their completely responsible, polite and appropriate appearance followed 55 minutes of repetitive discussion about the latest possibly corrupt, philandering politician. Who’s the real threat to American’s children, again? We forget.
Tickets are available for Motley Crue’s Las Vegas residency right now at their official website. Which, by the way, they just announced is soon to be upgraded.
The band is promising “a never-been-done before and incredibly interactive Vegas experience,” and they talk about blurring the line between band and fans in the video below, but exact details are being kept secret for now.
It’s possible we’ll find out more tomorrow night, when the band sits down for an extended interview with Morgan, which he promises will be one of the more outrageous conversations of his entire career.

Nikki Sixx wouldn't have anything to talk about if it weren't for heroin. Anytime there is an interview or clip of him it's "hey I was a junkie!"

Uh yeah, you tried this before Vince and uh...yeah, you might wanna rethink leaving again. http://ultimateclassicrock.com/vince-ne ... residency/Vince Neil To Leave Motley Crue Following Band’s Las Vegas Residency? by: Joe Robinson
Could Motley Crue‘s upcoming residency in Las Vegas be Vince Neil‘s last shows with the band? It’s a distinct possibility, as the singer says he’s contemplating leaving the Crue following the Sin City stint, which runs Feb. 3-19 at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. “It’s not definite, but I am thinking seriously about it,” Neil told the Las Vegas Sun. The residency follows Motley Crue’s most successful year of touring in their wildly successful 30-year career, including a summer tour with Poison and a winter U.K. trek with Def Leppard, which they just wrapped up.
Following the conclusion of that tour, Neil flew down to the Bahamas for a much deserved vacation aboard the yacht he maintains there. He spent his time relaxing, fishing — on one excursion he caught a 250-pound bull shark! – and thinking about his future plans.
Neil reported from the Bahamas, “I’m having a great time here – I could stay a year! I’m sitting on my yacht, contemplating my future, and I’m not sure it will be with Motley Crue after Las Vegas. Great things are coming up and pushing me in another direction.”
“This is all about me thinking about the second half of my life, thinking about my future, and that future might not include Motley Crue after Vegas,” he continued. “There are so many opportunities that are in front of me that I’m really excited about. I just don’t want to look back later in life and regret that I didn’t pursue them.
He concluded: “I’m just not sure I can give these opportunities the time and effort I’ll need to and continue with the band. It’s been a great ride, and I’ve enjoyed every second of it, but being out here relaxing in this beautiful place has given me the chance to reflect on what direction I want the rest of my life to take. I’m really giving it a lot of thought.”
If he does step away from Motley Crue, it won’t be the first time. Neil previously left the band in 1992 following the release of ‘Decade of Decadence,’ only to rejoin in 1997. Maybe he just needs a little time away, maybe he’s trying to grab some publicity ahead of the Vegas shows or maybe his days fronting Motley Crue are really numbered. Only time will tell.

http://ultimateclassicrock.com/motley-c ... niversary/Motley Crue’s ‘Girls, Girls, Girls’ Reaches 25th Anniversary
by: Mary Ouellette 4 days ago The ‘80s were an equally decadent and dangerous time for Motley Crue. But when the band emerged in 1987 with ‘Girls Girls, Girls,’ something was different. Ruling the notorious Sunset Strip, the glam rockers rose to fame after releasing ‘Too Fast for Love,’ (1981) ‘Shout at the Devil’ (1983) and ‘Theatre of Pain’ (1985)– all within a four year period. But with ‘Girls’ came a head-to-toe image transformation: Vince Neil, Tommy Lee, Mick Mars and Nikki Sixx traded in their spandex and make-up for leather and motorcycles, ushering in a new era for the band as they released their fourth studio album in May of 1987. The disc chronicles a dark period during the band’s career, steeped in heavy drug use, alcohol, and general debauchery and dysfunction as their lives played out in the seedy underworld of Los Angeles — one they helped personally craft. It marks a time when the band was fighting just to stay together and stay alive, let alone put forth their best music — but in the end, they managed to do a little of both. The record kicks off with the grungy, gritty anthem ‘Wildside,’ setting the scene for the rest of the album. ‘Wildside,’ arguably the best song on the disc, has since become a staple in the band’s live show. While the edginess of the track doesn’t carry throughout the entire album, it definitely gave the band something to build on in the future and proved to be a shining moment on ‘Girls, Girls, Girls.’ The album’s title track — still part of the playlist in every topless club from coast-to-coast more than two decades later — is raunchy, sleazy, and Crue to the core. Written during a time when music videos were not only relevant but generally required, the risque video for the song left a lasting impression. It featured all four members cruising on their Harleys, hair in the wind, from strip joint to strip joint, paying homage to the lovely ladies. As Nikki Sixx recounted in his book, ‘The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star,’ he was knee-deep in his drug addiction during this time, something that inspired the track ‘Dancing on Glass.’ It was during this general timeframe, after ‘Girls, Girls, Girls’ had been released that Sixx was on one of his benders and suffered an overdose, one of many he would fall victim to throughout his battle with addiction. Sixx was pronounced dead by paramedics and brought back to life at the hospital. It wasn’t very long before Sixx left the hospital against doctor’s orders, went home, and started the whole vicious cycle all over again. Years later, Sixx referred to the band during that time as being “a mess” and “out of control”. The third and final single ‘You’re All I Need’ was the obligatory power ballad for that era. Although a sweeping song with beautiful music driven by piano, the lyrical content wasn’t quite as sweet..or expected. The controversial tune chronicles a tale of love gone bad where a boyfriend kills his girlfriend so she could never leave him. The lyrics “You’re all I need, make you only mine / I loved you so I set you free / I had to take your life” are not exactly the most romantic sentiment but Sixx has always done things his own way and this song was no different. The video was subsequently banned from MTV, the primary outlet for videos at that (gasp) pre-internet time. One song that always felt a bit out of place on the disc was the track ‘Nona.’ Written for and about Nikki’s grandmother, who had raised him and who passed away during the writing process for this album, is a beautiful tribute. It provides soul and depth among the rest of the sleaze and general debauchery going down on this album. It’s a short song but the sentiment remains strong. Sixx admitted later that he didn’t make it to her funeral due to his drug abuse at the time. The bluesy beats of ‘Bad Boy Boogie’ and ‘All In The Name Of…’ in addition to the more rock based ‘Five Years Dead,’ and the wonderfully shambolic ‘Sumthin’ For Nothin’’ round out the original songs on the disc. Having had success with cover tunes in the past, ‘Girls, Girls, Girls’ employed a live take on Elvis Presley’s ‘Jailhouse Rock’ to close out the album. Generally panned by the industry, fans embraced ‘Girls, Girls, Girls’ unreservedly, and the album climbed its way to the No. 2 slot on the Billboard charts, although it couldn’t knock Whitney Houston to take over top honors. Although it may seem like a distant memory now, there was a time when the genre of music led by Motley Crue and the like reigned supreme. In today’s musical landscape, only the strong from this era have survived and continued to remain relevant. Motley Crue top that short list and continue to be successful to this very day, as they gear up for a summer super tour with Kiss. Looking back now at what role ‘Girls, Girls, Girls’ played in their spanning career, it seems to be the glue that kept them together during a personally difficult time for each member, preventing the whole band from blowing up. While maybe not their most commercially successful release, it was still immensely popular. Besides, ‘Girls, Girls, Girls’ succeeded in other ways and gave the band a vehicle to live on another day… quite literally in one instance.

That was the album when they went from a "hair metal" band to a kickass rock n roll band with that LA swagger (see GnR). Just saw the video "The Wild Side" today and that is a great song. Looking forward to seeing them in September.

That and the Whitesnake album were the soundtrack to the summer of '87 as we drove around on Saturday night.

It still irks me to this day that they are lumped in with the Poison/Cinderella/Warrant thing. Those bands appeared years after Motley first hit the scene in LA. The Crue's music, attitude, and funny enough, lyrics, don't really have anything to do with those bands. They really only adopted the glam look for one album (Theatre of Pain) around 1984.
It was like watching the Metal Evolution documentary where they grouped Stone Temple Pilots with the second generation of grunge acts. STP was doing gigs in southern California in the friggin' late 80's and released their first album "Core" soon after Pearl Jam's "Ten." They had nothing to do with bands like Creed.

Vince Neil is playing Fremont Street on Saturday in a FREE show where he plays Crue songs. Not really my thing so I'll skip it, but if you're a fan and will be in Vegas for Memorial Day Weekend it might be worth checking out.

Duuuuude...! http://ultimateclassicrock.com/tommy-le ... bout-fans/Tommy Lee Clarifies His ‘No Pictures’ Facebook Rant: ‘I’m Not Talking About Fans’
by: Sterling Whitaker Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee made headlines last month by posting a letter to Facebook in which he vented his frustration with people who are constantly seeking to take his picture. In a new interview, the musician clarified that he wasn’t addressing his true fans, but random people who approach him and don’t know his music. “Irritates the f- -k out of me when people say … ‘You owe it to your fans, they put you where you are, etc. etc.!’ I certainly don’t owe anybody anything!” Lee posted on June 28. “I’m not here to take pictures with you, I’m here to entertain you! Nobody put me where I am but ME! They may have helped inspire me with their love for what I do … but I put myself right here where I want to be with a lot of hard work, practice, talent, luck, etc. What I do owe myself and others is being THE BEST I can be! And that’s making great music, being a good man, father, lover and human being! We all owe that kinda stuff to ourselves and each other.” Talking to Fuse on Thursday (July 19), Lee said his problem is with “randoms” who only know him from seeing him on television. “I’m not talking about fans,” says Lee. “I’m talking about people that don’t even know who the f–k you are; they just want a picture with you. That’s how this all started.” “My point was, everybody has a f–king camera in their phone these days. In the past, if someone wanted a picture with you and they had a camera on them it was like, ‘F–k yeah, let’s rip a picture, this is cool!’” Lee said. “And now everybody has a f–king camera, so if you stop and take a picture with a fan, somebody sees that and you got yourself a f–kin’ 30-minute or one-hour meet-and-greet, my friend. And some people don’t even know who you are. They don’t even know your music but they’ve seen you on TV. So here you are, just trying to sneak into Starbucks for a quick coffee, and it turns into a f–kin’ meet-and-greet at a record store.” Lee recently shared the story of having an overzealous receptionist ask for a picture at the mortuary where he was picking up his mother’s ashes. He told Fuse that he’s had some fan backlash from his Facebook post, but he hopes his real fans will try to understand his position. “So to tell you the truth, at the end of the day, I really don’t care,” he said. “I said what I needed to say and hopefully the people who got it, got it.”

"Farewell tour?" Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight! http://ultimateclassicrock.com/nikki-si ... lbum-tour/ Nikki Sixx Says Motley Crue Will Retire After One More Album + Tour by Jeff Giles
It was just a few weeks ago that Nikki Sixx sounded like he was considering the idea of having Motley Crue call it quits after another album and tour. Now it seems as though he’s made up his mind.
Sixx discussed the subject during a recent interview with the Australian site TheMusic (via Bravewords), reiterating that in the immediate future, he wants the band to “finish our movie” — an adaptation of their oral history ‘The Dirt’ — “and put out a new album.” All of which probably sounds great to fans, but once that’s out of the way, Sixx thinks it’s time to disband the Crue once and for all.
“It’s important that when you do a farewell tour that people understand that when you put a bullet in the back of the horse’s head, and it goes down, it’s not a plastic bullet it’s a f—ing shotgun blast,” Sixx argued. “You know, blow its f—ing brains out, it’s never coming back…It’s the only way I can look at myself in the mirror and do a farewell tour. That’s it. So when we take our final bow, it’s it. I will cry. I cry thinking about it.”
Continued Sixx, “So it’s very emotional and I just think it’s important that we finish what we started and then, you know, it will be whatever it will be. It could be beautiful. It could be a beautiful ending! When you go and see a great movie — I’ll leave you with this: when you go and see a great f—ing movie and it ends and you go, ‘F—!’ like, you walk out and you go, ‘That was amazing! That blew my mind!’ It’s not like, ‘That blew my mind and, um, maybe there’ll be a sequel to it.’”
