Cream's Jack Bruce: 'Fuck off, Led Zeppelin, you're crap'

Nov 5, 2008

Former Cream bassist Jack Bruce has described Led Zeppelin as "crap".

Bruce, who reformed Cream with original members Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker for a series of shows in 2005, also slated Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page.

Speaking to Classic Rock Bruce said: "Everybody talks about Led Zeppelin [reforming], and they played one fucking gig – one fucking lame gig – while Cream did weeks of gigs [during their 2005 reunion]; proper gigs, not just a lame gig like Zeppelin did, with all the [vocal] keys lowered and everything. We played everything in the original keys.

"Fuck off, Zeppelin, you're crap. You've always been crap and you'll never be anything else. The worst thing is that people believe the crap that they're sold. Cream is 10 times the band that Led Zeppelin is."

The bassist then stated that Page is incomparable with Cream guitarist Eric Clapton, describing the Led Zeppelin guitarist as "crap".

PAGE AND PLANT'S DRUMMER DIES AGED 39

Michael Lee, the drummer most famous for his work with Robert Plant and Jimmy Page in the 1990s, has died aged 39.

Lee (top right above) passed away earlier this week - November 24 or 25, according to conflicting reports - and the circumstances or causes of his death are currently unknown.

The drummer first worked with Robert Plant on his 1993 solo album "Fate Of Nations", before playing with the singer and Jimmy Page on their 1994 set "No Quarter: Jimmy Page And Robert Plant Unledded".

Lee also performed on the duo's Steve Albini-produced follow-up, 1998's "Walking Into Clarksdale".

He also played with The Cult, Echo And The Bunnymen and the reformed Thin Lizzy during his career.

Very sad. I also just recently learned that Bonham's singer, Daniel Macmaster has died at the age of 39 from a staph infection. R.I.P. to both.

Led Zeppelin and Sonic Youth for live collaboration

Dec 4, 2008

Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones is to perform with Sonic Youth to honour the 90th birthday of choreographer Merce Cunningham.

Jones and Sonic Youth are set to collaborate on a work composed by mixed-media sound composer Takehisa Kosugi at the Brooklyn Academy Of Music next April, reports The Guardian.

The show, called 'Merce Cunningham At 90', is not the first time the choreographer has inspired musicians to work together. In 2003, Radiohead and Sigur Rós collaborated in his 'Split Sides' show.

'Merce Cunningham At 90' takes place from April 16 to 19.

Led Zeppelin Turn Down Offer to Headline Download Festival
March 23, 2010
http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/i ... -festival/

Image

Ever since Led Zeppelin reunited for one night in December 2007, it’s been every festival promoter’s dream to somehow coax Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones back out of their hiatus and into a headlining slot. Many have tried, all have failed, including Andy Copping of the U.K.’s Download Festival, who admitted to XFM that he approached the Physical Graffiti band about playing the fest, which takes place June 11-13th in Donington Park.

“Every single festival in the world approaches Led Zeppelin or their management to get them to pay at their festival,” Copping told XFM. “Loads of money gets thrown out. It’s not what they want to do at the moment and that’s fine. They probably never will, but everyone has a stab at it.”

Jason Bonham Plans to Take Led Zeppelin Tribute Act on the Road
John Bonham's son will honor the 30th anniversary of father's death with a 30-date fall tour

Led Zeppelin haven't answered fans' passionate calls for more shows after their one-night-only 2007 reunion concert in London. But Jason Bonham, who stepped in and played drums for his deceased father at the show, is offering the next best thing: a summer tour with his new project the Led Zeppelin Experience. Bonham is hitting the road to honor the 30th anniversary of his father's death with a 30-date tour featuring Bonham playing the band's greatest hits. Dates along with the lineup of musicians backing Bonham will be announced soon; more info is available at Bonham's official website. "When I was offered to put this together over a year ago, it wasn't right," Bonham said in a statement. "This September 25th is the 30th anniversary of my father's passing — I thought, what better way to celebrate his life than to do 30 shows for the 30 years he's been gone?"

The shows will be more than just a standard set of Zep covers. Bonham is planning to ratchet up the gigs with plenty of multimedia features, including a light show and giant screens displaying home movies and photos of Bonham and his family. Inspired after seeing the longtime touring show "Rain: A Tribute to the Beatles," Bonham partnered with the team behind the Pink Floyd Experience production. "I loved 'Rain' and its take on the Beatles," Bonham said. "The way they used a timeline and news reel to create a mood, and crafted set changes throughout, it was stunning."

As Rolling Stone previously reported, a true Led Zep reunion seems unlikely this year. Robert Plant will be touring and releasing a new album with his pre-Zep act Band of Joy, which also featured John Bonham. The singer is currently recording the disc with Alison Krauss (who collaborated with Plant on the 2007 Grammy-winning smash Raising Sand) and will be joined on tour by singer-songwriter Patti Griffin.

I'm glad Jason Bonham isn't living off his father's fame and legacy.

I think I liked him better when he was in "Foreigner."

Hopefully he has some top notch musicians with him or it may not come off very well.

I really liked Dweezil Zappa's tribute for his dad but he had a lot of Frank's old band members with him to give it some authenticity.

My friend's Dad, a huge Zappa fan, said he liked Zappa Plays Zappa better than Frank Zappa live, because sometimes Zappa would go into these long-ass political rants on stage. ZPZ was all music.

This would be cool and would make sense but I'm sure Plant won't do it.
From Anti-Music.com:

In today's far fetched wishful thinking department, we bring you the hopes that Led Zeppelin will reunite to replace U2 at the Glastonbury festival next month. An idea that Jimmy Page hasn't ruled out, thus giving fans a small shred of hope that it may happen. (But don't hold your breath.)

As we reported yesterday, U2 have postponed their 2010 tour plans after frontman Bono had emergency back surgery in Germany (see report here). That leaves a big hole in the headlining slot on June 25th at the famed Glastonbury festival and one name being mentioned as a possible replacement is Led Zeppelin.

Nightwatcher reports that Led Zeppelin legend Jimmy Page has hinted to BBC 6 Music that the band wouldn't say no to playing the show. Jimmy simply said: "I never rule anything out."

He was in "Foreigner" for a while when Mick Jones decided to resurrect the name. But it didn't feature original vocalist Lou Gramm, who'd parted ways with Mick many years back...and not amicably.

Do we need the quotes? Couldn't we call them "The Allman Brothers Band" in another thread? Just because you find the Foreigner lineup "questionable" doesn't mean others do as evidenced on this board.

Jason Bonham sat down with KLOS’ Sal Cirricione before hitting the stage for the Mark & Brian Christmas Show at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles Thursday night.

Bonham was on hand as part of Mark & Brian All-Star Band - featuring Aerosmith’s Joe Perry, Paul Rodgers (Bad Company, Queen, Free), Michael Anthony (Chickenfoot, ex-Van Halen) and Steve Lukather.

Jason talks about his plans with the Led Zeppelin Experience tour and Black Country Communion, among other things.

It’s been three years since Bonham played the Led Zeppelin reunion show at London’s 02 Arena, and he was asked about any possible DVD release plans.

“Nothing is official, as yet,” said Jason. “I only know that because Robert (Plant) had said that he’d watched it. I really do hope that it eventually will see the light of day. It’s just nice to know that Robert had seen it, so I knew something, but it was nice that he rang up and said ‘Wow, it sounded great.’ Fingers crossed, everybody… fingers crossed.”

Hmmm....don't know if I'd totally believe Mr. Tyler here.

Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler not only jammed with Led Zeppelin following that band’s celebrated 2007 reunion, but was asked by Jimmy Page to write a record with them and he turned the offer down.

Tyler dropped the Zeppelin bombshell on Howard Stern’s show early Tuesday morning, while making the media rounds in NYC to promote American Idol’s launch Wednesday night.

Stern: Did you audition for Led Zeppelin?

Tyler: Ya, I went over there and played with them.

Stern: But doesn’t that piss off Joe when you’re gonna leave Aerosmith and go be with Led Zeppelin?

Tyler: Of course it does. No, I spoke to Jimmy – actually, I spoke with his manager Peter Mensch, who’s been a good friend of mine forever, gave him his first job. And he said that they’d just played live and Robert wouldn’t play with them again, and ‘wanna come over and jam with the guys?’ I went ‘Hello!?!’ So, I went over and played.

So, look at me now: not only did I sing to McCartney, but I played with Zeppelin. So, I’m in heaven.

And, by the way, when I looked Jimmy in the eyes and it came time to...'you wanna write a record with me?’ I went, ‘No'

Stern: To Jimmy Page? Why not?

Tyler: Because I’m in Aerosmith. He’s the biggest band in the world and so am I in a band like that. I have such an allegiance to my band and I love it so much.

Tyler dropped by Stern’s show for an hour-long session, covering all kinds of things you won’t hear on terrestrial radio.
