Be sure to invite Taft from upstairs, then you'll really have a sizable gathering.

Never in a million years would I have thought that was possible. And, as I've said before, my first reaction upon finding the old ICEbox was "I'm not the only one!" We all speak a common language that not everybody understands. I'm glad that some IMWANkers drop by downstairs from time to time. I wish more of them would, and I encourage more ICErs to visit upstairs. An interesting crew up there! I just can't stand the Jimbo guy though. Thinks he knows everything...
And he's opinionated too! Thinks he knows everything about CDs!
As for Vennie....you wouldn't have me any other way...because it's not possible.

I agree with all of the sentiments from the previous posts.
I was a long-time lurker during the Ice days, but I'm glad I finally jumped into the pool. I've met far too few of you guys, but you all seem like good eggs. Hopefully, I'll get to meet many more of y'all.

I am "one of the few." I've gotten to meet Jeff a couple of times in NYC, where we took in some movies and had a bite to eat afterwards. I was just using Jimbo as a means to meet Jeff. Now it can be told!

I've also talked with Jimbo on a number of occasions and believe he is relatively harmless. My hopes for a sizable ICEr gathering have not diminished over the years -- someday we should make it happen.
I've always had the opinion that anyone that loves and collects music can't be all bad. I think it would be a great idea!...

Hi Linda,
I don't resemble anything like Mick Taylor. I have salt & pepper hair and look like something that fell out of somewhere that you really wish you hadn't even walked by.
I'll tell you what though. In lieu of that, if arrangements can be made, I can send you a picture of me one of these times. Just make sure you have a certified physician and at least 2 ambulance attendants by your side when you see it. LOL!
P.S.-I'm currently waiting on seeing if I get a phone call from a receptionist at my audiologist's office that I hit on today. She likes music and that drew me in like a magnet.
P.S.S.-The audiologist was of interest to me as well.

It was a great pleasure meeting Ven and his family a couple of months ago, and thank you for being such a great character witness for me, Ven. And, of course, I am not a serial killer -- I have committed only one murder. Sheesh!! In all seriousness, I have now had the pleasure of meeting 3 ICErs personally (Jimbo and JohnG being the other two a few years back -- I still owe John a slice of pizza, so I hope I'll be able to get back to NYC soon for a redux), and I could not have imagined any of them being nicer people! Thanks especially to Jimbo for encouraging so many of us to actually break the barriers of the internet and speak on the phone or meet in person. It has been a great joy to be part of this family for these many years, and thanks to IMWAN for giving us a continuing home.

I know I offered this a while back but if any of you get down South to Hotlanta, I would love to meet up and take you around to some truely great indie stores here. Atlanta is loaded and almost all have good selections of CD's and vinyl at resonable $$.
I do hope to meet some of you one day. This site helps keep me sane what with my teenager constantly whiging out and being a major drama queen.
And my wife just turned 44 today so I have one month of being younger so it's a good day and listening to Just Roll Tape and grooving nicely thank you very much

I think, with some exceptions, most of the posters here are nice, and yes, it is about the music here. Unlike some other forums which have been named, we are small enough that our personalities can be remembered. As such, I've looked forward to meeting most of the posters I've grown to know here, and have been lucky enough to meet a few of them.
Hey, Dan, I'm coming your way to Vegas next month. We should talk...

Yes, do come up and visit.
It's like coming to the zoo, without the poo flinging.
Okay... with less poo flinging.
Now, where is the "Genius of Weird Al" thread?
Or should I have gone for the "Glory of Anne Murray"?

I haven't been here in a long while, but it is nice to see it flourishing. It actually seems larger and more information-packed than the old Ice room. I remember all the fretting and doomsday scenarios put forth when the demise of Ice was imminent, seems it was all for naught. Seems like most, if not all, of the old Icer's are in here, so that must mean Linda is doing something right. I recall the choice was between here and some other site that I have forgotten already--seems like the right choice was made.

I always check in a few times a day and I think this place is great. Linda does an awesome job and keeps the peace!
I also enjoy posting stuff about forthcoming releases and reading Renny's contributions every Sunday about the sales.
This place has kept my love for buying music alive, even though with each CD purchase I feel like I'm buying a '74 Pinto or Intellevision. The media would have you believe CDs died years ago, but I refuse to buy an Ipod until I absolutely have to, which sadly, might be soon. Bah!
P.S.
I've been told I look like Peter Wolf or Peter Buck-pretty odd since my name is Pete. At least I haven't been told I look like Pete Rose!

I've said this in other threads, and your comment makes me want to reiterate it here, IP. I think we (serious music collectors in general and ICE specifically) are transitioning into the 21st Century equivalent of what the dedicated vinyl collectors became after the CD reached critical mass. IOW people who don't just love the music, but also love the whole ritual of serious listening time ... having a physical object to hold and read and examine while listening to music in the best quality on a real (i.e. not computerised) system ...
There is some irony in this, since we began as the cutting edge types who were stepping into the future by embracing digital audio. Now, 25 years later, we've become "traditionalists"! Standard bearers for quality sound and the whole music listening experience.
I welcome this, I really do. Let's face it, even back in ICE Magazine's heyday when CDs were considered the be-all and end-all format by "the mainstream", we (serious collectors) were out on the fringes anyway. We sought pressings most people didn't know existed, often by artists most people didn't know existed. So it's not much of a leap for us to find ourselves today as the people who are seeking formats and a level of audio quality that the mainstream doesn't care about either. Vinyl is still made today, long after it supposedly was rendered "obsolete", so it stands to reason that CDs (or an even better physical medium) will be made for as long as we want to buy them.
Honestly, I think we have a very bright future, and rather than bemoaning what "Joe Sixpack" settles for when he buys or listens to music, we should be revelling in our outsider status.

If CD's will become a collector's only format, perhaps we can get rid of the trend of compression and noise reduction!

Because this place is a font of knowledge regarding virtually every sort of recorded popular music. Like a liberal university in the early 70's where eveyone is a total brainiac in their field of study, but also benefitting from an air of chilled radicalism. There's so much music out there to learn about and collect my brain is beginning to hurt.
