Leon Bridges is the latest addition to the lineup for this weekend's 2015 American Music Awards.

The soul singer is enjoying a breakthrough year with his album Coming Home peaking at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 and at No. 8 on the Official U.K. Albums Chart in July. His debut also led the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and he’s just been confirmed as a musical guest next month on Saturday Night Live.

Bridges joins a line-up of previously-announced AMAs performers which includes Coldplay, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Gwen Stefani, Pentatonix, Ariana Grande, 5 Seconds of Summer, Selena Gomez, Nick Jonas, Demi Lovato, One Direction, Carrie Underwood and Walk The Moon.

ABC will air the AMAs live from Los Angeles' Microsoft Theater on Nov. 22, with Jennifer Lopez performing and hosting for the first time.

Taylor Swift is the most nominated artist at this year's AMAs, nominees for which are based on key fan interactions as reflected in Billboard Magazine and on Billboard.com, including album and digital singles sales, radio airplay, streaming, social activity and touring. These measurements are tracked by Billboard and its data partners, including Nielsen Entertainment and Next Big Sound.

The American Music Awards are produced by Dick Clark Productions, a sister company of The Hollywood Reporter and Billboard. Allen Shapiro and Mike Mahan are executive producers. Larry Klein, Barry Adelman and Mark Braccoare producers.

i would be willing to bet that i have not even heard one song that will be played at this award ceremony tonight (unless it is a cover of something), not that i would watch anyway.

I have to chuckle at the AMAs in general. They originally came about because ABC lost the broadcast rights to the Grammies. ABC then ran to Dick Clark and asked him to create a new awards show for them. Dick's modus operandi was to grab the Billboard year end charts, take the top 3 finishers in each category, and let the public at large vote on the top 3. As though a vote had not already taken place among the record buyers and radio listeners. A vote on the top voting results, egads...

At least the Grammies started out as an industry recognition of artists / writers / producers / etc., which was about the music [some might argue unhip / uncool music of varying degrees], that years later eventually got carried on TV. The AMA's started out as a TV show to sell ad dollars...

Isn't that what all of these stupid awards shows are? What other industry is constantly publicly self-congratulating itself?
