They didn't say nary a word when I hit 1,000 either, Renny. They're worse than a High School clique when it comes to acknowledging anybody who doesn't have the secret decoder ring and private gibberish password.

Whatever. Those threads are so incredibly ghey anyway, almost as ghey as spending time over at the "Bones" forum, and, you know, wishing the other members goodnight and stuff.

I cringe when I see my own post count. I probably regret at least 500 of them.

FWIW, your Borders coffee tirade is one of my favourite ICE posts of all time.

 Not a good suggestion I take it?? Most of those "waste of band-width" congratulatory posts have been started by the "celebrated one" lately.

Where is the "crawling under a rock" smilie??

They don't want to presumably because your are a moderater here. Some people there are somewhat cliquey. Your posting is of more use over here anyways. There is still alot of good info on SHtv, but it's gone downhill the last couple of years, especially the music forum section.

It's an attempt to take the connotation of homosexuality out of the word/insult "gay."

Just my opinion but to me it's a way of being homophobic with a clear conscience.

Well then, Phuket.

(BTW, Federico, that's exactly how it struck me.)

Is this guy full of himself or what? All this because somebody finally had the nerve to criticize a Steve Hoffman mastering job? What about all of the other mastering engineers whom have been slagged countless times over the years at Steve's very own forum? :o

Steve Hoffman wrote:
From now on you must have your equipment profile filled out if you're going to comment on threads in Music Corner that have to do with "which version of an album or CD is better" or anything to do with comparisons of gear, wire, etc. in the Hardware section.

Go to the USER CP and then "Edit Profile" and update or fill in your equipment profile. People who are about to spend money on your recommendation have a right to know the gear that you are making your judgment call on.

I want to buy some Creedence Clearwater SACD's. I just want to clairify that there are only 1 SACD version of all the CCR albums and they are mastered by Steve Hoffman. Is that right? The best price I've seen online is about $22 a title. Is that the best price? They are all hybrids, aren't they? Thanks, Mike

You won't regret it, but be prepared to turn up the treble a bit .

Steve Hoffman wrote:
Many things but see the above post. The poster is entitled to his opinion but when he makes a statement that sez "the treble needs to be turned up" on something and we click to his gear profile and it's blank, well, that tells us nothing. This won't do anymore.. There must be some frame of reference. A poster is about to spend $$ on something. He needs all the info he or she can get as do we.

This is NOT a snob system vs. inexpensive system thing. As Grant knows, his modest system tells him the truth as he believes it. That's fine, it may or may not match our taste but he trusts it. That's what counts.

We need to know as many facts as we can if you chose to post an opinion in a "which version is better?" thread.

Once again, I don't give a sheet WHAT YOU LISTEN ON. I have some audiophile friends with $100,000.00 systems that can't hear a damn thing and have the world's worst (to me) opinions on what sounds good. It's NOT about how "groovy" your system is.

I've done some of my best work on my old Pioneer 1010 receiver and a pair of AR speakers. Do not be afraid to list your gear.

All we are trying to do is protect the buyer (YOU).

Why are we doing this?

If I recommend you go out and buy the new so and so disk because the new remaster sounds so much better than the old version you should have the right to know what I'm making that judgment on. This is all the SH Forums can really do to protect you when buying something blind.

Carry on! .

I don't disagree with anything you quoted Hoffman on, especially in the audiophiile context of his forum.

As an example there is a budget 40 cd Duke Ellington box from a German label that goes by several different names including Trumpets Of Jericho, Tim & others. I belong to a Duke Ellington mailing list, & there has been significant disagreement on the sound quality (or lack of) of this box. I think it sounds like an old telephone, with the mids extremely boosted & no top or bottom. The list is very much split 50/50 on that set. Some hear what I do, others mostly with mass market inexpensive systems hear a sound they like. The set was probably intentionally voiced for cheap stereos. Someone with a $100 system with recessed midrange would probably hear a fairly smooth sound & the way they mastered it almost all the surface noise is gone. Even my cheap pc & car stereos tend to be pretty revealing, & I can't sit through more then a few minutes of the set without feeling irritated.

While I'd really like to feel superior & say I'm right & the other half of the Ellington list is wrong; that wouldn't make sense because listening enjoyment is subjective & a number of DE list members have been clear that they've gotten tons of enjoyment out of that box for their $50. What I'm hearing Hoffman saying above is that the way a particular system is voiced will have a HUGE impact on how a given recording sounds on it. I don't have any problem at all with that statement (though their may very well be other agendas behind the words; I'm not a member of that forum).
