The Spice Girls confirm reunion tour

The Spice Girls have confirmed plans to reform for a world tour today (June 28).

The all girl five-piece made the announcement at the O2 Arena in London this afternoon.

Introduced by actor Richard E Grant the group said they will kick off their tour in Los Angeles in December and tour around the world.

The band denied any plans to play the Princess Diana memorial concert this weekend due to Emma Bunton's pregnancy.

Geri Halliwell described the band getting the band back together like "coming back to a family".

She added: "I think for us it was about celebrating the past, enjoying each other and it's about our fans. It was the right time."

The band also said that they were in talks to record new material and confirmed plans to make a documentary which will show their "gritty side", in December.

The Spice Girls will play the following cities, with venues to be confirmed:

Is Posh Spice part of this too? I can't believe she's gonna leave the posh life she has with David Bekham and go on tour.

The tour seems silly since they were never that big anyway. Virtually forgotten about all these years later.

The funny thing is I recently mentioned to my wife after hearing a Spice Girls song on the radio....whatever happened to them all? We know about Posh since she's always in the tabloids.

But the rest just disappeared especially Baby Spice.

I just like well-produced, catchy pop music, no matter what era. Plus, I'm fascinated by good hype jobs, as long as I'm in on the hype. The Spice Girls were one of those acts that I'd heard about well before I'd heard any of their songs.

The Spice Girls announce extra dates

The Spice Girls have added four extra dates to their world tour.

The reunited girl group announced their reunion jaunt at a press conference last month (June 28) and asked fans to log onto http://www.thespicegirls.com to register for tickets.

In a statement regarding this, the band said: "In true Girl Power tradition we are taking over the world...again.

"We have just found out that we've had over 3 million ticket requests on the website. As our own VB (Victoria Beckham) would say, that is MAJOR!!"

The band have added dates in Canada, China and San Jose. They have also launched the Spice City campaign, which gives the fans the chance to vote on which town the band should play.

They said: "If we haven't announced a date near you, you can still vote for your city to become 'Spice City'... For one night only, exactly where we perform is down to you and your votes...we are literally in your hands."

The Spice Girls set to play Baghdad?

The Spice Girls are set to play in Baghdad on their forthcoming reunion tour after fans voted in their droves for them to play the war-torn city.

The group asked fans to vote online to decide which city would become 'Spice City' for the evening, and promised the place with the most votes would win.

The Mirror reported: "Baghdad's already generated thousands of votes and it'll definitely be a contender when the voting ends."

A spokesperson for the band confirmed: "The girls will go anywhere in the world that gets the most votes - be it Baghdad or Antartica."

Baghdad misses out on Spice Girls gig

The Spice Girls have chosen Toronto as their 'Spice City'.

The band let fans vote via their website on the city they would be playing as part of their winter world tour.

On Thespicegirls.com they wrote: "One city had to win and we are now delighted to announce the winner is...Toronto. Thanks to everyone in Canada who voted for us to play there - we'll work out the date over the next few weeks and let you know."

Listing the other contenders, the band wrote: "Since we launched there have been literally millions of votes for us to play in hundreds of cities, including places like Rio, Chicago, Melbourne, Manchester, Paris, Alice Springs, Baghdad and Diss!"

Speaking about the choice Mel C told Jam Showbiz!: "(Toronto) just narrowly beat Manchester and I'm from Liverpool, which is quite close.

"I'd have been happy with Manchester, which is near all my family. But I love Toronto and I also have family there too."

As previously reported on NME.COM, there was a concerted internet campaign for Iraq's capital Baghdad to host the show, with the city receiving a large number of votes.
