"third matinee' was patrick leonard (who was a part of toy matinee and richard page (of mr. mister fame). it was a scant shadow of 'toy matinee' which was masterminded by kevin gilbert.

gilbert did not appear on "third matinee" at all.

"third matinee" has nothing to do with "toy matinee" in any way shape or form.

"toy matinee" is fantastic, and if you've never heard of kevin gilbert, i can't recommend anyone more highly.

'giraffe', 'toy matinee', 'thud', 'shaming of the true', and his 'live' album are all worth seeking out. "kaviar", on the other hand, is very eccentric (for lack of a better word) and quite different from all the others.

kevin gilbert should have been a star!

Pete Townshend and Ronnie Lane - Rough Mix

That doesn't really fit here. I just felt like posting it. It's one of my favorite albums, and I just listened to the reissue a few nights ago.

Maybe it belongs in a thread on one-off collaborations.

After going back over the posts, I see that other one-offs or temporary collaborations were listed.

Have to agree with Thunderclap Newman-Hollywood Dream. Pete Townsend produced and Andy McCulloch played guitar. It contains the single Something in the Air. Great album

It's nice to hear her voice to this day. Isn't "Can't Stop Now" a nice obscure slice of the Motown Sound? I've got my old vinyl in unusually nice condition, plus the cd re-release that goes for nice sums on eBay these days.

"Tammi's" sister Ludie's bio of Thomasina Montgomery is an interesting read, some hard to find photos. "Tommy's" life was short, but wide in experiences.

James Durst, are you a Detroit local? I know you're obsessed with Motown, so I recommend the Various Artists: Lou Beatty's Detroit Soul on the UK reissue label Grapevine. 30 storming northern soul tracks, the La Beat label was right up there with Motown. In fact, Motown's head honcho Berry Gordy lay down the gauntlet to La Beat's Lou Beatty by saying "This town isn't big enough for the both of us!"
