I still believe the Metsies will win the World Series either in 2007, 2008, or both.

Hey the Yanks are really knocking on the door now! :D

What a turnaround.

Seems like Gagne is having trouble adjusting to the AL. He blew two games for the Sox over the weekend.

The Yankees' comeback is nothing short of astounding. Suddenly everybody is hitting right around .300 or better! Of course, when you get to the playoffs, pitching is the key, and that's been inconsistent all season.

I hope my friend Federico hasn't transferred himself to the nearest rubber-room yet. The Mets just must be driving you nuts!
The NL Central, the AL Central and the AL East and NL East races are really something right now. And out West here, it's really quite amazing that the Diamondbacks are up in the NL West. The Angels and the Mariners are heating up their race as well. We could end up having a really fantastic ending here this season.
On top of it all is that the buried Cardinals are starting wake up and Rick Ankiel (sp?) has resurrected himself as a hitter. He's been on fire since he got called back up. Ichiro, Prince Fielder, Vladimir Guerrero and Magglio Ordonez have sure been fun to watch. I got to see Ordonez hit those 2 homeruns in the same inning yesterday.
I'll be watching mostly baseball tonight once again (I've got the Giants on right now in the other room). I am going to take some time to check out the 49ers tonight on ESPN to get a glimpse of what their starters and reserves are going to have to offer this season.

How the Mets have remained in first this whole season is astounding. They really have never clicked. I'm still waiting for them to get their act together. Maybe they'll play better in a shorter playoff scenario.

Now the Yankees are an example of a team clicking at the right time.

The 2007 World Champion New York Mets  have been very fortunate in that Atlanta and Philadelphia have, for the most part, lost their games on the same days the Mets have, so they haven't been able to gain any ground.

That having been said, the 2007 Mets' record isn't that far off from last years' club (up until and including games of August 12, they're 65-52 this year; 70-45 last year).

What the heck is up with Willy Mo Pena? Boston just dumped him for nothing this past week?

btw...the Mets picked up Jeff Conine.

Willy Mo is without a doubt the worst defensive outfielder I've ever seen. No team that plans to contend can afford to put him out there. He needs to be a dh for a team that can afford to wait for him to develop his swing.

I'm ok with it. He's absolutely going to retire at the end of the year so they aren't going to be stuck with him or salary or any sort of dilemma. He doesn't make up for losing Easley but he can contribute a little in the very short term.

I think Brian Cashman has made as many bad decisions as good ones in the past few years, but I must give him some credit now. In the last month or so, The Yankees have managed to almost completely re-make their bullpen and their bench, and so far all changes have been for the better.
Having the Yankees play well is always a treat, but watching them win with young players like Chamberlain, Cabrerra, Ramirez, and Duncan contributing is especially exciting.

Yep, things have really improved lately. The Yankee bench is stronger and the young guys can really play.

I really enjoyed the Yankees-Angels game last night. This series should be a really good one.

Me, not so much. :ohno:

Fortunately, since it was a west-coast game, I was asleep long before the game ended.

Jimbo,
I suppose I shouldn't mention last night's game, should I? Garret Anderson ends up breaking an Angels team record by getting 10 RBI's. I'm sure the Yankees will be plenty angry tonight and will be seeking outright revenge.

Last night's game was hideous. Here we are in August, and Mussina has run out of steam, again, right on schedule.

I'd love to see the new kid Joba Chamberlain get a start, but the Yankees are sticking to a strict plan for him. Only short relief this year, then a starter next season. He has electrified the hometown fans.

I actually caught Garett's grand slam HR to clinch the 10 RBI night. That was quite a performance. It looked like batting practice for the Angels.

It is important that the Yankees don't panic and start to use the young arms too much at this point.

Mussina has been a disapointment throughout his Yankee tenure.
At times this year he has looked totally cooked.
I wouldn't start Chamberlain. I'd like to see Karstens get another shot.
What's up with Darrel Rasner? He pitched well early in the year before getting hurt.

even though we seem to be mostly Yankee, Met, RedSox or Phillies fans, be sure to check out the box score of yesterdays Rangers - Orioles game.

if runs were cd's then Texas was Jimbo for a day

I'd love to see a photograph of the scoreboard from that game.
