Would you be open to a Faces reunion if it ever happens?

If you’re a fan of Rod Stewart‘s late-’60s and early-’70s eras, there’s some good news and some bad news.

Stewart called in to WZLX (a Radio.com station) and spoke with Carter Alan earlier today (Dec. 2) to talked about two potential reunions.

So, let’s start with the bad news: his much-hyped reunion with Jeff Beck. Not happening: “Well, we seem to have lost contact with each other, sadly. Jeff’s manager was the guy who was getting us together, but he’s fired the manager since then, so that conduit has been closed off.”

Which leads us to the good news: “I think we have got much more of a chance of getting the Faces back together, in fact, Ronnie [Wood]‘s office is talking to my people, and we’re ear-marking 2015.” So it appears that the Jeff Beck Group/Faces reunion tour that he was talking about earlier this year was just a good idea.

Listen to the entire interview at WZLX’s website.

Without the manager passing along his messages, Rod Stewart can't get near Jeff Beck? And "Ronnie Wood's office is talking to my people"? This all makes me sad.

They're so old they can't really talk anymore; they need someone to interpret the strange sounds coming out of their mouths!

I'm guessing this is Rod talking out of his (cocaine filled) ass.

Most likely this is bullshit and it won't ever happen.

True, as the Warner live album proved.

Stones tour in 2014, it appears, so I suspect that explains Ronnie's being unable to make plans until 2015.

By the way, F.U. Rod!

The Faces keyboardist Ian McLagan says the band aren’t interested in working with Rod Stewart in 2015, despite the frontman saying he’s finally ready to stage a reunion.

A gathering of the original line-up has been discussed for several years, but after plans kept being put on hold they went out with SImply Red frontman Mick Hucknall in Stewart’s place during 2010 and 2011, following a 2009 charity show at which Stewart failed to appear.

Last week the original vocalist said he was finally ready to commit – but McLagan insists he and drummer Kenney Jones want to spend 2015 focusing on the anniversary of earlier outfit the Small Faces, which didn’t include Stewart.

The keyboardist tells Uncut: “It’s interesting that Rod announced these things without talking to me or Kenney. Why would we fuck around with the Faces when we’ve got bigger fish to fry?

“We’ve done the Faces – and he didn’t turn up.”

The Small Faces were formed by Steve Marriott in 1965 alongside Jones, Ronnie Lane and Jimmy Winston. McLagan replaced Winston the following year. Frontman Marriott left to launch Humble Pie in 1969, and the Small Faces were created with the addition of former Jeff Beck Group members Stewart and Ronnie Wood, who’s now with the Rolling Stones.

But the door isn’t locked tight against a Faces reunion, without late bassist Lane. “Rod says he’s keen to do it now, and I believe him,” McLagan says. “But he’ll have to wait until 2016, because 2015 is the Small Faces’ year.”

There's an interview with McLagen in the last issue of The Blues, and he says that the Faces will be getting together in 2015.

Can't agree that the Small Faces are "bigger fish" then The Faces. Can agree that Stewart seems to be quite pleasant to deal with.

A picnic in late May, an amusement park outing in June, a weekend of movies in July, and a more formal dinner in a nice restaurant (you know, with flowers on the table, metal utensils, and the butter made into little roses) in August.

Faces drummer Kenney Jones says his surviving colleagues are more determined than ever to reunite – and they want to do it this year.

He insists their shows will feature the presence of a bartender on stage, harking back to their iconic performances of the 1970s.

And he believes the long-discussed move is more important than ever following the death of keyboardist Ian ‘Mac’ McLagan in December.

Speculation has been circulating since 2008 that Rod Stewart would go back to work with Ronnie Wood, McLagan and Jones. The closest a reunion has come was when Mick Hucknall fronted the band in 2010, then when Stewart bowed out of their Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction at short notice in 2012.

Jones tells the Austin Chronicle: “Rod, Woody and me are still going to do the Faces this year. When we do we’ll have the bartender on stage again – and a coffee machine for Woody.”

Guitarist Wood agrees: “There’s got to be a heavy dose of humour in everything we do,” he says. “Mac epitomised the funny side of things, even in the most dire conditions.”

The Faces lost bassist Ronnie Lane in 1997, while Steve Marriott – who fronted the Small Faces before Stewart led the transition to the shorter title – died in 1991.

Jones says: “I’m so proud that life introduced me to Steve, Ronnie and Ian. They’ve been a major part of my life. Over half of it. I miss all three of them; it’s lonely being here on my own.”

Stewart paid tribute to McLagan following his death, saying: “Ian embodied the true spirit of the Faces.”
