If I were to pick one anthem per decade, one song that defined each of the modern decades, my choices would be:

1950s

Tutti Frutti - Little Richard

1960s

Be My Baby - The Ronettes

1970s

Anarchy in the UK - Sex Pistols

1980s

(Hey You) the Rocksteady Crew - The Rocksteady Crew

1990s

Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana

2000s

I can't think of any

It was difficult for me to choose between "Be My Baby" and "Like a Rolling Stone" for the 1960's. "Be My Baby" defined the first half of the decade, while "Like a Rolling Stone" defined the second half. But I like "Be My Baby" better, so I ended up choosing that one.

Bannings: 5 (with one reversed on appeal)
1950s: "Rock Around The Clock"

1960s: "Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In"

1970s: this is a tough one for me...maybe "Silly Love Songs"?

1980s: "Bizarre Love Triangle"

1990s: "I'll Make Love To You"

2000s: "All Star" (yes, I know it came out in 1999, but it ushered in the new decade with a vengeance and remained a strong musical representation of pop culture well into it...IMHO, of course)

in terms of media saturation

60's Like A Rolling Stone
70's Stairway To Heaven
80's Born In The USA
90's Smells Like Teen Spirit
00's Fell In Love With A Girl (ok wishful thinking here)
