Quote:
Sly Stone, the remarkable, eccentric frontman, singer, songwriter, and producer of his family group, Sly & the Family Stone, has died. He was 82.

The musical icon had been battling lung disease, according to a statement provided by his family.

"While we mourn his absence, we take solace in knowing that his extraordinary musical legacy will continue to resonate and inspire for generations to come," they wrote.

RIP, sir, and thank you (for being yos elf).

Damn. This one hurts. But like other complicated greats with a crazy history, we are lucky to have had him as long as we did.

Mine too, and also in my top 5 favorite songs after Marquee Moon and One Nation Under a Groove.

Those three are great! You can't leave us hanging- what are the other two that round out your top five?

Like a Rolling Stone and Strawberry Letter 23 (Brothers Johnson version). It's an odd list in that it pretty much bypasses some of my favorite artists (Sparks, Wilco, Beach Boys, Elvis Costello, Rolling Stones), but those catalogs are really hard for me to pick a favorite.

Excellent list, I am always interested in seeing people's favorite music.
Thanks!
