Once again these idiots show how stupid they are by lumping Joy Division and New Order together.

OK - my 2 cents:

first and foremost - once again no warren zevon - it's borderline criminal - and seriously fucked up

2 - why bad company and not paul rogers all inclusive.....free, bad company, the firm, queen and solo - again, HOF why think out of the box?

3 - black crowes - absolutely - the robinson brothers are very very good

4 - mariah carey - why not, she is whitney houston....christine aguilera and brittany spears are next in line

5 - chubby checker - tough one - iconic song - notice 'song' singular - i don't know, i doubt it

6 - joe cocker/billy idol - probably both of them could get in, top tier......no, but almost. and both had nice careers and catalogs

7 - joy division/ new order - i'm really not familiar with them, i'll defer to those who know

8 - cyndi lauper - another tough one - great early, then disappears - again i doubt it

9 - mana - ???????????????? - the rock hall pretending they are cool and know more than you

10 - oasis - not a fan, but they sure have quite a folowing, will the bad press keep them out?

11 - outkast - have to have a rap/hip-hop act....rather it was snoop, who i have grown to like a lot as a person, still don't know one song

12 - phish - i don't them well enough to say, they sure do have a following though

13 - soundgarden - the obligatory grunge act - again the rock hall pretending they are cool

14 - white stripes - not a jack white fan, but he sure seems to get around.......

missing:

zevon
tull
iron maiden
grand funk
america
boz scaggs - steve miller has been in......they are contemporaries.
dan fogelberg - as deserving as zevon IMHO
lucinda williams - is there a better female singer-songwriter out there?

Don’t forget the wonderful Partridge Family (all those hits!).

Once again Uriah Heep have been snubbed. This hall of 'fame' is a farce.

I don't know who/what Mana is so I can't say there. Chubby Checker had one song, then desperately did "let's twist again" to try to recapture it all, and that's it. I guess we should let Kajagoogoo in for "Too Shy" as well, then. They're treasures, but one hit wonders need not apply, IMO, no matter how big that one hit might have been.

If the Violent Femmes were snubbed in some way (I assumed they would have been eligible for a while by now), then it's a shame. Also Joy Division and New Order should be separate, even if every member of NO was in JD. Totally different sound and audience.

my 2 more cents:

Definitely Yes
Paul Rodgers / Bad Company
Black Crowes - I had to remind myself of the catalogue after the first 3, and it's still great
Oasis - 4 or 5 albums as the biggest band on the planet, until..
Jack White / The White Stripes - maybe the most recent HoF worthy rock band? Maybe the last?
Soundgarden - I think the other 3 are already in, so they should be there

Definite No
Chubby Checker - There's a hall of fame for songs, so The Twist goes there

Lean Yes
Mariah Carey - I don't consider her rock, but the second best singer of her style for more than a decade
Joe Cocker - I don't have musical context for him versus his peers, but a strong peak
Billy Idol - a couple albums where he was the top rocker by popularity, and 15 years of relevance, if you include Generation X.
Outkast - the flag bearers of the dirty south, and legitimately creative and talented. Probably in the top 20 hip hop acts of all time.
Joy Division / New Order - Combining them is probably how they sneak them in. Joy Division lacks the mass appeal, and New Order the artsy credibility to get in on their own, but together, it's a slam dunk

Lean No
Cyndi Lauper - too short a time on top, and she was a step below here pop contemporaries
Mana
Phish - too niche

missing - I agree on most of these; some I lack opinions on, so I'll take your word for it.
zevon
tull
iron maiden
grand funk
america
boz scaggs - steve miller has been in......they are contemporaries.
dan fogelberg - as deserving as zevon IMHO
lucinda williams - is there a better female singer-songwriter out there?
Violent Femmes - one of the pillars of the early 80s college rock sound

Renny once again removing all doubt, as the saying goes...

"The band is considered one of the best-selling Latin Mexican music artists and the most successful Latin American band of all time with over 25 million records sold worldwide. Moreover, Maná has earned four Grammy Awards, eight Latin Grammy Awards, five MTV Video Music Awards Latin America, six Premios Juventud awards, 19 Billboard Latin Music Awards and 15 Premios Lo Nuestro awards."

If the ballot was completely open, my five picks would be-

Jethro Tull
Iron Maiden
Boston
The Smiths
Cliff Richard and the Shadows

Limited to the names on this ballot, my five picks would be

Bad Company
Oasis
Joy Division/New Order
Soundgarden
Joe Cocker

I'm actually not bothered by this. The band continued after Ian died and the ground that New Order perfected was laid by Joy Division. Doubt Joy Division would ever make it on their own, but Ian Curtis deserves the recognition. And I don't think New Order will make it with or without Joy Division.

Bad Company, Joe Cocker, Soundgarden, Oasis, Joy Division/New Order, Billy Idol, Cyndi Lauper and OutKast would be my votes.

The Hall remains a joke regardless of who gets in.

How are these not in (my A-Z list with one artist under each letter):

Alice In Chains
Bjork
The Cult
Devo
ELP
Fishbone
Rory Gallagher
Human League
INXS
Jethro Tull
King Crimson
Little Feat
Motorhead
Gary Numan
Outlaws
Pet Shop Boys
Queensryche
Replacements
Sting
Thin Lizzy
Uriah Heep
Violent Femmes
Weather Report
XTC
Weird Al Yankovic
Warren Zevon

And so many more!

Sting is not in the HoF? I know the thing is ridiculous and we all say such every year, so I shouldn't be surprised...but still, I am. I think he had as much success (if not as lofty) solo as he did with the Police.
