Posting this here purely to keep Chris honest. ;)

Actually ... I really liked those last few albums they did with Duncan Faure as lead singer, so I'm guilty of being a Rollers fan too.

When I saw the post title, I thought Vennie from the ICE board was starting our first BCR war here!

When I picked up Elevator (the first album with Duncan on lead vocals) I was absolutely blown away. I was getting into harder edged rock at that time (1979) and to hear the The Rollers making a move into power pop was a revelation.

Of course, in retrospect, it's funny to think that I thought it was so cool back then that there were swear words and drug references in the lyrics - but hey I was a kid then!!

Unfortunately, Arista Records felt the Rollers were washed up and put no promotion behind the album. Then they dropped them due to poor sales. Go figure.

For the record my all-time favorite Rollers album is Wouldn't You Like It.

Thanks for starting this thread, Linda - you've created a monster.

I would have kept buying BCR albums had I known they were still putting 'em out -- for a very long time I thought Strangers In The Night was their last album. It wasn't until I was in law school, some 12 or 13 years later, that I stumbled upon a cut-out LP of Elevator. But the cover was so bizarre (a huge pill in an elevator...do I recall that correctly?), I decided not to buy it. Finally got to hear it a few years ago, courtesy of my buddy Chris!

Yeah, Strangers In The Night was a great Rollers album. I think it sold poorly because the cover artwork confused fans, though.

For some reason - perhaps the depiction of drugs - the cover art was changed for the Japanese release:

And isn't it odd, that they were calling themselves simply "The Rollers," which these days is a reference to someone on ecstasy, if my hip-speak is current.

Maybe they could do a reunion tour with a twist..."coming to a rave near you, The Bay City Rollers."

I have no idea what a "thizzer" is.

Perhaps it's a fizzy e-tablet that you're afraid to swallow?

Oh, the usual...work, kids, errands, and other "life gets in the way" kind of things. This has been kind of a busy year for me. But I'm going to try really hard not to disappear again...gotta stick around to help keep Chris in check! :P

I have an idea to stop Chris...it's theoretically possible, but it's never been tried before...maybe if we had a year to run lab tests and computer simulations...

The Rollers were introduced to America on "Saturday Night Live", singing their failed '73 single "Saturday Night". The tune climbed the U.S. chart in late '75 and hit the #1 spot in January '76. The Rollers were on top of the world. The scenes previously witnessed by UK fans were now repeated in the States and Canada, thanks to an even more exhausting schedule of promotions, recording, TV, and magazines. They repeated their success in Australia, as they continued their quest for world domination.

I'll always remember a religious retreat we were forced to take in high school to Shelter Island NY. A full weekend out on an island with no escape!

But I'll always look at two highlights from that weekend. One was waking up on Saturday morning to the tune "Saturday Night" playing on the intercoms.

And the other was the mass that evening in the chapel with John Denver music playing...someone, I forget who, let a good one go if you know what I mean. The priests/brothers didn't like that!
