Bannings: If you're not nice
From Launch Radio Networks:

Quote:
Is an all-new KISS on the horizon, one that doesn't have any original members? It's possible, according to the band's manager. According to the New York Times, KISS manager Doc McGhee "has been toying with the idea of recruiting an entire band to...don the band's famous makeup." McGhee said, "KISS is more like Doritos or Pepsi, as far as a brand name is concerned. They're more characters than the individual person. I think (new members) have a legitimate chance to carry the franchise."

KISS singer-bassist Gene Simmons doesn't necessarily disagree with that idea. He told Launch that the concept of original members isn't widely held by fans, and it isn't really accurate anyway. "There's no question that there's a core of fans — five-10 percent, my sense is — who believe in original members," he said. "And yet, when you look at original members, THE BEATLES are not original members — Ringo is not an original member; the STONES — barely. You know, they've had so many members come and go, but it's the STONES; and AC/DC's aren't original members; and VAN HALEN; and JOURNEY...you go down the list of every — almost every band you can think of."

Somehow I don't think you could throw "the Beatles" out there today with 4 new guys and get the same affect.

KISS it could probably work, though, as long as they didn't just go up there and do a 100% KISS imitation, like sticking the tongue out and everything.

Bannings: Banned from the John Byrne Forum because I loved Linda and Melissa just a little too much. ;)
I'm sure in Simmons mind that only 5-10% of the fans care about the band having all four original members but since this is the same guy who thinks KISS toilet paper and coffins are brilliant ideas and putting out 8000 greatest hit cds is great for the fans I'll pass on this latest brainstorm.

The only thing that brought KISS back to life was the reunion tour with the four original guys in makeup and Simmons and Stanley have been milking that ever since! Reunion tours, Farewell tours, Symphonies, I guess they don't have many more ways to package tours.

I hope they do try this latest stunt so that the 5-10% of the KISS fans who buy every piece of garbage KISS puts out will have something to entertain them.

I could support this, but only if they hire these guys...

I thought Styx tossed that idea around already.

Oddly enough I think it could work with KISS. Especially if they add a bit of carnival to it. Make it a SHOW, and not just four guys pretending to be KISS.

They did that with the Beatles. It was called Beatlemania. :barf:

Styx were talking about doing this around '77/'78. They were going to "tour" by hiring local musicians to be Styx™, playing Styxsongs™ in every city and every country on their itinerary, but all in the same month. A world tour in 30 days. For whatever reason, they never got around to trying this concept.

Anyone else getting an email about a 'one night only' KISS film at a local theater on 10/26?

It says they will play KISS at Cobo Hall 1976 plus a documentary called KISS Day In Cadillac Michigan 1975.

Sounds like this might be fun.

KISS Alive! on the Big Screen
From: National CineMedia, LLC

In 1976, KISS came to Detroit for an incendiary concert at the Motor City's Cobo Hall and the world of rock & roll was never the same again. On October 26th at 8:00 p.m. local time, fans can travel back in time with the biggest, baddest, most triumphant show band in rock & roll history to catch that historic show in a Big Screen Concerts(SM) event for only one night in select movie theatres nationwide.

KISS ALIVE! ON THE BIG SCREEN (click here for the trailer) features the band's classic line-up - GENE SIMMONS, PAUL STANLEY, ACE FREHLEY and PETER CRISS - plus a never-before-seen special rockumentary with GENE SIMMONS and PAUL STANLEY as they take a look back to the band's 1970s roots. All historic concert and rockumentary footage including the Cobo Hall performance and KISS Day in Cadillac, MI will be shown in its original 1975-76 format. In the past thirty years, a thousand musical trends and genres have come and gone and come again, but through it all, there has always been KISS!

KISS lead singer and co-founding band member PAUL STANLEY comments, "I was blown away by this footage. Watching it on the big screen is as close as anyone will ever get to traveling back to those days."

KISS ALIVE! ON THE BIG SCREEN will be presented by National CineMedia and VH1 Classic in association with McGhee-Proffer Media for only one night at 164 participating Regal, United Artists, Edwards, Cinemark, and Georgia Theatre Company movie theatres across the country. Tickets for this exciting Big Screen Concerts(SM) event are on sale now at presenting theatre box offices and online at http://www.BigScreenConcerts.com for $10.00. (For a complete list of participating theatre locations, please visit the Web site.)

KISS has more Gold Records than Fort Knox and, after 33 years of rocking and rolling all night and partying every day, KISS continues to be the juggernaut of licensing and merchandising. The group has earned more than 55 gold, platinum and multi-platinum awards since receiving its first gold record for "KISS Alive!" in 1975. KISS has performed more than 3500 concerts in front of nearly eighty million fans in virtually every country on planet earth. Where other bands have fan clubs, KISS has a full-fledged Army of the most rabid and loyal true believers in the world.

"KISSology Vol. 1 1974-1977," a 2-disc DVD will be released on Halloween day, October 31, five days following the Big Screen Concerts event. "KISSology Volume One 1974-1977" provides ample evidence of why KISS has lasted so long and continues to mean so much to so many millions of people. For the KISS Army, this DVD marks the arrival of nothing less than a Holy Grail: 6 solid hours of vintage KISS going all the way back to the deep early roots of the band's classic line-up - GENE SIMMONS, PAUL STANLEY, ACE FREHLEY and PETER CRISS - captured and re-mastered on 2 state-of-the-art DVDs featuring more than 70 live performances and four full concerts bundled along with unreleased tracks and never-before-seen footage. "KISSology Volume One 1974-1977" is the first volume of a definitive three part collection - Volumes Two and Three are being readied for release in 2007.

"KISS truly took rock and roll to new heights. Music fans will witness how high on this special night as well as on the upcoming 'KISSology Volume 1' release, presented by VH1 Classic," said Eric Sherman, Senior Vice President and General Manager, VH1 Classic. "And as a card-carrying member of the KISS Army since I was 15, I'm personally excited to see the band on the big screen."

Read today that Paul Stanley And Gene Simmons were Grand Marshals of The Halloween Parade in the Village, in their makeup. Nice job guys, NYC all the way :yay:

I saw it on the evening news. They looked great. Wish I could have gone. We had great weather here in NY.

Yeah, I was home trick or treating with the kid, fantastic night for it.

I did go to the parade in '97, so crowded you couldn't move on the sidewalks, a little claustrophobic!, but a great parade.

I was there, since I live one block away. I go every year at least for a few minutes - my first one was about 25 years ago (!). We left before the Kiss guys came past, though - my daughter's teachers had the nerve to give homework on Halloween! Saw it live on NY1 at home - Gene Simmons was as full of himself as ever.

George Peter Crisscoula's birthday was yesterday. I believe The Catman is probably 59 years old.

Happy Birthday, Mr. Criss. We're still waiting for your Frank Sinatra tribute album...

There have been some bizarre events in KISStory - hopefully Paul is doing alright as I post this.

KISS ROCKS FOR PAUL
PERFORMS AS TRIO

Last night an extraordinary page was written in KISSTORY. At the Soboba Casino in San Jacinto, California, last stop of the band’s 2007 ‘Hit & Run’ mini Tour, KISS performed as a TRIO for the first time ever. Immediately following the band’s sound check, Paul Stanley suddenly fell ill, with what was later determined to be a “cardiac event”.

Once it was determined by emergency medical staff that Paul could not perform, there was talk that the show would need to be canceled. It was Paul himself, who insisted that the band play the show without him. Paul was concerned that fans had traveled long distances and because of the band's individual schedules the show could not be rescheduled.

KISS Manager Doc McGhee then took the stage to announce to the crowd that Paul was sick and unable to perform but that Gene wanted to speak with the fans. Gene asked the audience if they wanted him, Tommy & Eric to perform. The crowd responded with a defeaning chant of yes, yes, yes. With that, Gene announced that the concert (If they could pull it off), was a tribute to “The Greatest Voice in Rock and Roll - Rock God Paul Stanley”.

With Paul en route to the hospital - Gene,Tommy and Eric played their hearts out in honor of their stricken leader! The set list evolved as the night progressed and KISS blasted their way into the hot night air - valiantly trying to hold it together minus the band’s heart & soul. In an emotionally charged moment, Gene told the crowd that he was an only child, but nevertheless had a brother – Paul Stanley! ‘Christine Sixteen' brought 11 invited fans onto the stage to help perform the song, and added a bit of lighthearted fun to the pensive night.

The trio went on to perform a full set including classics and rarities - ‘Watchin’ You’, ‘Goin’ Blind’, ‘Nothing to Lose’, ‘Black Diamond’, ‘Cold Gin’, ‘She’, and ‘Parasite’. The sold out arena was filled with dedicated fans who appreciated what a unique night this really was, despite its bittersweet nature, and rocked hard & loud. As the final chords of ‘Rock & Roll All Night’ were struck, and the last jets of flames and confetti shot into the night sky, everyone realized what they had just witnessed was simply great music performed by dedicated, extraordinary musicians who really gave it their all, and then some.

Another thing every KISS fan at the show last night realized - is just how lucky we are that our favorite band, led by the greatest front man in Rock N Roll PAUL STANLEY, cares so much for us fans!

Get well soon Paul - we all love you!

Paul posted this on his website...

MESSAGE FROM PAUL
PROUD OF GENE, TOMMY & ERIC

07/28/2007 PAULSTANLEY.com

PAULSTANLEY.com

During sound check yesterday, my heart spontaneously jumped to 190 plus beats per minute where it stayed for over an hour necessitating paramedics to start an IV and give me a shot to momentarily stop my heart and get it into a normal pattern. Not knowing if this episode was life threatening made it even more exhausting. After consulting with both the paramedics and a cardiologist at Cedar Sinai, they confirmed my worst fear. They said that I would put myself at risk if I tried to do the show.

I’m very proud of Gene, Tommy and Eric for carrying on without me. I apologize to anyone I disappointed and I’ll make it up to you when I see you again.

Paul.

The setlist for this unique show...

01. Deuce
02. Cold Gin
03. Calling Dr. Love
04. Christine Sixteen
05. Nothin' to Lose (Eric on vocals)
06. I Love it Loud
07. Goin' Blind
08. Watchin' You
09. She
10. Parasite
11. God of Thunder
12. Let Me Go, Rock 'n Roll
13. Black Diamond (Eric on vocals)
14. Rock and Roll All Night

Paul is a super trooper. Hope he is well tonight. He is one of my favorite rock vocalists of all time.
