I know this has been mentioned before I believe in connection with the Beatles Revolver. I currently have three preorders from Amazon where the delivery date, which has always been on the release date has slipped a bit. New policy? Understaffed? Just me?

Specifically:
Beatles Revolver Super Deluxe - Release 10/28, Delivery 11/2
Olivia Newton-John Greatest Hits Deluxe Edition - Release 10/21, Delivery 11/2
Pentatonix Holidays Around the World - Release 10/28, Delivery 11/11

Amid all of this, the Revolver Super Deluxe ordering page still says that Prime members get "FREE Release Day delivery Friday, October 28". What's up???

I expect this will affect everybody ordering all products from all online retailers at least through the end of the year. It's a mess out there right now, as you know.

Retailers are stuck between supply chain issues (labels and distributors who underestimate demand and are also laying off workers because of the economy) and delivery issues (USPS, UPS, FedEx are similarly understaffed).

I'm very glad that Amazon has been switching more to doing their own deliveries. Most of my packages are brought in Amazon trucks nowadays -- the only thing more exciting to me than seeing that truck is seeing an ice cream truck. :) But even if your locale is getting more direct deliveries from Amazon, the goods still have to come into stock before they can be sent out.

I think Amazon has gotten to the point where they really don’t much of a flying fuck about customer service anymore. I pre-ordered the new King's X and got a message the week before delivery saying it would be delayed, which I didn’t worry much about because every retailer had problems with that album. But then I saw people saying they had gotten it next day from Amazon. I checked the product page, and sure it enough it had the “get it tomorrow!” blurb on it, so I contacted customer service. Their response? “Oh, there a fulfillment problem. You can just cancel it and re-order to get the next day delivery.” I pointed out that it was all their fulfillment and delivery system. The CS rep more or less just blew me off and asked me if I wanted them to cancel the order or not.

I've seen a lot of release day deliveries slip to an estimated Tuesday delivery (like David's Beatles set says), but they almost always have come on Saturday.

The pending railroad strike will destroy many deliveries of many products everywhere.

Hopefully it doesn’t happen.

The upcoming recession should be a blast.

We can barely afford to food shop now.

exact thing happened to me with the last timothy b. schmit album, but the rep made me take it to the next step, i had to cancel and re-order it again and got it the next day.

by the way, i had originally ordered it 2 months in advance.

Thanks for the advice. It's totally fucked up of course, but I canceled my order for Revolver Super Deluxe, and then placed an identical one. Voilà! Same day delivery!

That’s what I do unless I need to protect an earlier lower price.

I think just as a check on this whole thing I will leave my orders in place and we'll see when they show up. I can be patient for science.

I ordered the "Revolver" box, and the stated delivery date is 10/28.

This is indeed an odd phenomenon. As far as I can tell, pre-orders for this item originally said that the delivery date was TBD, and then later these customers were informed that the box, to be released on October 28, would be delivered on November 12. But since that notice went out, all newly placed orders have gotten same-day October 28 delivery.

So - bottom line - if you just let things stay as they are, the rule is "order early, receive it late" and "order late, receive it early". :-o

Not really a delivery date problem, but instead a delivery problem.............

I ordered the new Genesis live radio broadcast, LA Complete, from Amazon UK. I got my order yesterday but it's a Playstation3 video game. Not even the order number was correct. Just went thru the return process (exchange).

Geez.

Another delivery problem (admittedly rare, in my experience) from amazon: I have ordered Paul Simon's "One Trick Pony" album on vinyl-- three times. All three times I received Paul Simon's "Graceland -- The Remixes" album on vinyl even though (all three times) the label on the record mailer said "Paul Simon One Trick Pony." I think human intervention in the warehouse is in order.

I ordered Fawlty Towers on Blu-ray from Amazon UK and instead received Douxos3 Calm Soothing Mousse Leave-on for pets.

I did the same thing just now - cancel current Rev order (Del Nov/14) and re-order same day as release (until we get an delay email, lol.

I am still wating on my
Zappa '75: Zagreb/Ljubljana[2 CD]
which showed leaving on Oct 13, then 'held up in transit' -
with comment it may be lost.
Annoying.

A tad off-topic, but I got mine this week and it is a jewel case which Amazon threw in an envelope, so the case was destroyed. Fortunately, I have boxes of extra cases lying around so rather then send it back I just replaced it.
On the bright side, it's excellent! CD 2 was mostly instrumental, and I loved it. Great liner notes as well. Terry Bozzio contributes a short essay and even a sketch he did from the tour.

Exact same experience here ... a jewel case in a slim padded envelope which was smashed almost beyond recognition. Fortunately the CD was fine, and I also have a large stock of extra cases. But it's a sign of no longer caring much for the customer. :-x

The original question has been addressed to David's satisfaction, I trust, but posting about everything that's ever gone wrong with our online orders over the years isn't going to resolve anything for anybody. If you have an issue with a current order, you've got to contact Amazon customer service directly. PM me if you need phone numbers (better than e-mail IMO).
