The unit is supposed to be the backbone of the offense, the engine behind one of the most dynamic run games in the league. The Colts are paying that position group a collective $42.2 million this season, the most of any offensive line in football, and they’ve allowed 18 quarterback hits and seven sacks on Ryan in eight quarters plus an overtime.

They’re struggling against stunts and twists, whiffing versus speed on the edge and consistently failing to give Ryan time in the pocket. As for Jonathan Taylor, the league’s runaway rushing champ last season? It didn’t seem like he had a single hole to run through on Sunday.

The Colts are averaging just 1.49 yards before contact on 51 rushing attempts in two games, per TruMedia, their lowest since 2017 — the year before Reich arrived. That speaks to the lack of push the line’s getting up front. All told, even with Taylor’s talent in the backfield, 27.5 percent of the Colts’ runs have gone for zero or negative yards, the fifth-worst rate in the league. That’s one out of every four runs going absolutely nowhere.
