For those IMWANers like me who still prefer having a standalone device for playing music, Apple has announced that they are discontinuing the iPod Touch. Available while supplies last. The Touch line was last updated in 2019. End of an era.

I grabbed a 256GB model while they had them. It's not as much a necessity as it used to be, but I prefer having my music separate so I don't risk running down my phone battery more during the day. I have an unused 128 from a couple years ago that was meant to replace my 80GB iPod Classic because the display was starting to display lines across the bottom, so I figured it was on it's last legs. Nope - it's still kicking, although it's showing signs that it might be time. I always preferred the Classic for walking around town because I could pause it by touch if my headphones didn't have control buttons on them. But it's kind of hard even finding wired headphones for it anymore. Plus, now that I'm working at home, I don't need it for walking around town. But I can use the Touch in my vehicle, so that works. And truth be told, I've always thought my old Creative Zen had the better system for control, editing the playlist on the fly, moving music on - and especially off - the device, and being able to control it w/o looking at it. But it only held 20GB and I outgrew that pretty much before I bought it.

Still, sad to see this day come.

I'm still using my iPod classic for driving and workouts. About 2 years ago I bought a new one on Ebay and it is still going strong.

I honestly didn't even know they were still making these.

I missed when they discontinued the classic. I was going to get a 160GB, but I missed out. Weirdly, the classic works well in the vehicle sometimes, but not others.

My iPod Touch is the electronic device I use more than any other device I own, since I listen to audiobooks every day. It's also my reminder alarm system.

I have purchased one just now, since my old 6th generation model is not holding a charge as well after all these years of use.

I snapped up a 160GB Classic the day they announced they were discontinuing them. I still have an 80GB too. I love these, but really love the nostalgic comments I get from people when they see me listening to it.

Rest in peace, iPods. You were a good device.
