The CD tower I used to store about 1500 CD's finally fell apart about a month ago. It was one of the common particle board that used cam's and connectors to hold the sides together. The shelves were held in place by small plastic tabs which over time would not stay in place resulting in a shelf full of CDs' come tumbling down. With the market for CD's falling the last 8 years or so, the companies that made these larger storage towers have gone out of business. Was hoping someone here might know of a company that made a decent quality product that can house a larger quantity of CD's. If not i guess my option is to purchase multiple units that store around 600 cd's each.

I don't have that many CDS (very few by most ICER standards), but I've finally reached the point where I'm thinking of dumping all of the jewel cases and condensing my collection into multi-pack DVD cases and printing up my own inserts. Sure, I would lose the liner notes and images, but most of that is available online if I ever really need it. And this will seriously cut down on the space required to store them as well as my search time since all of the discs would be arranged (and stay) in release order.
I did it with most of DVDs and Blu-rays already and I'm pleased with how those turned out. I have only the collector in me that screams internally about doing such a crime.

I dump the jewel boxes in to my recycle bin and use Jewel Sleeves from DiscSox. I have all of my media in them including Blurays and DVDs . I then sort them in cabinets made in Canada by Can Am. It's all expandable. I have a huge collection so I really don't have a choice.

+1 on the Can Am - although I keep all the jewel boxes and stuff, unlike you other blasphemers! I saw the Can Am cabs at a record store a couple decades ago. Ended up buying some when we moved to this house 22 years ago. Just bought two more for CDs a couple years ago. Expensive, but worth it. I've even toyed with the idea of buying one as a TV stand so I have somewhere to store some of my DVDs.

After about 6 years the drawer components became an issue (wear and tear) and I disposed of it when I realized it couldn't be repaired. I looked at CanAM again as an alternative. A 4 drawer unit with shipping is almost $1200. But, it is an option.

Years ago when I was still living in an apartment in Queens, I had local woodworking shops (like Gothic Cabinet Craft...are they still around?) build custom shelving based on my specifications, and they ended up being cheaper (per-disc) than any store-bought options because they utilized every inch of space I had. When I bought my first house in 2006 I had a carpenter adjust those units for my finished basement, and he also built a few new units. Here's what they looked like after I packed everything up for my move to North Carolina in 2015): So my recommendation would be checking with a local woodworking shop. I hope this is helpful.

When I had my current home built in 1994 I had 3 custom shelfs built for albums and 1 built for cd's in a media room. I think the cd shelf holds about 800 cds. At the time I thought I had plenty of space since I also had a CD spinner tower that held 1000 cds. Boy was I wrong.

I have a Snap On tool chest as well and the Can Am is just as strong and the same quality.

I always went with Leslie Dane racks that hold about 550 CDs each and was happy with those. Doesn't look like Amazon has them anymore which worries me because I'll soon be in the market for 2 (1 for CDs, 1 for Blu-rays).

That's nice. I contemplated something similar for my basement - figuring one day to give back the bed room I highjacked for the music library...particularly when I run out of space (very close)
