'Intervention' by the Arcade Fire is kicking my butt all over the place at the moment. Awesome, awesome track. The performed it on SNL a couple weeks back and totally blew me away.

The new album is great by the way.

Missing videos have been replaced with newer uploads throughout the thread. -- Linda

"Pop! Goes My Heart" from the soundtrack to Music and Lyrics. Not the 80s, but an amazing simulation.

So I find Drew Barrymore irresistably adorable, is that such a crime? :love1:

Music and Lyrics was a lightweight but entertaining film. Hugh Grant has a winning way of tossing off subtle one-liners, and the soundtrack is full of ersatz 80s pop tunes, with help from members of Fountains of Wayne. "Meaningless Kiss" is a bald-faced rip of Wham's "Careless Whisper" but sounds good nonetheless. Be sure to check out this movie when it hits DVD.

I found the "Get Crazy" soundtrack album (which has never been released on CD) available as MP3 downloads on somebody's blog. Malcom McDowell's "Hot Shot" and "I'm Not Gonna Take It" by Lori Eastside and Nada are highlights.

Speaking of FOW, "Someone To Love" is my favourite song at the moment.

For a current song, "Sea Legs" by the Shins is really sticking in my head. I realized at some point that reminds me of the Smiths and Morrissey. But the song I really can't stop listening to "The Lee Shore" from David Crosby's box set.

I wasn't very impressed with the Arcade Fire's first album, which everybody raved about, but they're obviously very talented and interesting. Is the new one a big step forward?

Greg, yeah the new Shins album is good stuff. Regarding the Arcade Fire, if you didn't like the first album I'm not sure you'll dig the new one. Hard to say.

That said, I really liked the first one and really like 'Neon Bible'. If you can give the new one a listen, check out Intervention, Keep the Car Running and (Antichrist Television Blues) for starters.

From their first album, check out the YouTube performance of 'Wake Up' with David Bowie.

I am obsessing over two songs right now. The Decemberists' The Crane Wife 3 and Jonathan Coulton's Code Monkey. I must play Code Monkey three times a day.

The song I can't stop playing at the moment is "It's All True" by Everything But the Girl's Tracey Thorn.
It has a great video, too.

I've had "Girlfriend" by Avril Lavigne stuck in my head for the last week and a half.

It's so energetic in its mean-spiritedness and self-parody, I just love everything about it. Especially the video.

Spoiler: show

Thanks for the honest opinion on the Arcade Fire, Rob. I really appreciate the fact that you didn't just give me a rave about how great they are, but instead gave me a helpful comparison of the two albums. It's the kind of response that respects my opinion, which is obviously different than yours.

Interestingly, I never really got into the Shins first two albums, which I own, and was all set to skip #3 until a buddy lent it to me to check out. I think it's a big step forward. That's why I like to keep tabs on bands like the Arcade Fire.

"Sanctuary", the title track from the latest Antibalas album. Excellent Afro-funk song.

Greg, no problemo! I actually think the first AF album is more accessible, so if that wasn't your cup of tea, I'd be hard pressed to beat you over the head with how great I think 'Neon Bible' is. :-)

That said, here is that live performance of 'Wake Up' with David Bowie (from the first album).

Spoiler: show

Okay, so I'm becoming an Arcade Fire junkie. Here's 'No Cars Go' from the new album.

"Smile" by Lily Allen, preferably the Motown-ish remix. Saw her being slightly dissed on one of the other threads but she's the first new thing I've heard in a while that's really caught my ear.

Thanks for posting that Avril video Hank. Cracks me up. Check this out... 'Avril's multilingual new single' http://jam.canoe.ca/Music/Lowdown/2007/ ... 81-ca.html

"The ambitious 22-year-old recorded the chorus to the fun, fast rock song in seven different languages -- Japanese, Portuguese, German, Spanish, French, Italian, and the aforementioned Mandarin."

She can sing in 7 languages but she didn't know how to pronounce David Bowie's last name...

Don't You Ever Wash That Thing - Zappa and the Mothers - Roxy and Elsewhere.

Loved it since I first heard it in 74 - still can't get it out of my head.

I think I first heard it in Waterbury in either 72 or 73.

Either way that along with Watermelon In Easter Hay will be played at my funeral - someday - hopefully far off in the future.

The infectious 1969 single, "(We've Got) Honey Love" by Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, with it's stabbing violins and bright vocals, is now one of my favorite songs by this Motown group.
