I'm in complete and utter shock. I used to adore Meat Loaf's music growing up. Bat out of hell 2 was the first grown-up album I ever owned back in February of '94 with I'd do anything for love being my favorite song for years on end. I can't tell you how many times I heard that worn out cassette copy, as well as its follow-up the original bat out of hell, followed shortly by blind before I stop and then welcome to the neighborhood. I fell out of love with him in the 2000s but I still have fond memories of his albums growing up. Meat Loaf will certainly be missed.

Remembering those first 'boy-girl' parties in Junior High; sequestered down in a basement, playing games like Spin The Bottle, Truth Or Dare, Seven Minutes in Heaven...for me that was in 78-80 (Boy just typing that made me feel old!). I recall Journey's "Loving, Touching, Squeezing" always playing at those parties. But of course, THE favorite was "Paradise By The Dashboard Light" from the at-the-time omni-present and perhaps greatest Guilty Pleasure Album of all time "Bat Out Of Hell" ("Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad", "You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth"). A flash of lightning success that led to one of the most successful albums of all time (questionable record-club accounting aside) and able to re-emerge another 15 years later after falling into musical Purgatory with another major hit and album. Playing Eddie in Rocky Horror Picture Show. Comedic pain in Fight Club. Being robbed of Oscar contention for the Patrick Swayze vehicle Black Dog (ok a jest there). Softball coach and father. Love him or not, the man had an incredible voice and commitment to performance that one could not deny. Meat Loaf...Rest In Peace.

I found on YouTube a very interesting interview with him on 1.) being in Dallas the day of the JFK shooting and driving to Parkland Hospital. And 2.) going for an interview to work parking cars and ending up in a singing audition and ending up with a spot in a musical, I think it was HAIR. Very interesting person.

Damn, what a voice. "Bat Out Of Hell" was an absolute masterpiece - "For Crying Out Loud" is one of my favorite song and is absolutely overlooked. His brief but excellent turn as Eddie in Rocky Horror surprised me when I first saw the movie.
I saw him only once, at a small club in the late 80s/early 90s. It was one of several times they were "just about to start recording Bat Out Of Hell 2" - it would be several years until it came out. But what a performer - he had two absolutely gorgeous backup singers (the Goff sisters), and it was nearly impossible to tear your eyes off this sweaty fat guy who just commanded your attention the whole night.
He also did some vocals on Ted Nugent's "Free For All" album - "Together" is outstanding. Well worth looking up.
RIP, sir. And thank you.

RIP. https://nypost.com/2022/01/21/meat-loaf ... ll-was-74/I remember going into bars in 1990. Bat Out of Hell was everywhere. A Hilltop Tavern staple. It was guaranteed that at some point between 1:30 and 2: 00 am, there would be a crowd wide call and response sing along from the entire bar for Paradise By the Dashboard Light I saw him twice, and he was magnificent both times. He threw himself into his performances like few I've ever seen. I really enjoyed him in Rocky Horror, and may have helped reinforce that it's okay for hard rock guys to like Musical Theatre, because the vocal performances are so good. And of course, he and Jim Steinman managed to capture in the studio the archetypical teenage male experience, and it's been selling a couple hundred thousand units every year since. It's part of the music starter kit, and that will be legacy enough for any musician RIP, Meat. And thanks for the music

Bat Out of Hell is easily one of my favorite albums ever. Every time I put it on, it's a big production as I can't listen to it without acting out every song. Every song is perfect, and like Alan, For Crying Out Loud is my favorite. Wish my copy of Free For All wasn't in storage, because I also love the songs he sang on that one too.

My main memory of Meatloaf was seeing him perform Bat Out Of Hell the year it broke at Alumni Hall located at St Johns University in Queens NY. It was a hot sweaty night perfect for this bombastic album. What made it unique was Meat performed the album from a wheelchair as he broken his leg that year (just as he was to tour) and still put on one hell of a show!
If there is a Rock N Roll heaven then Meat has motorcycled his way through those pearly gates like a bat out of hell blasting in with his big voice!
RIP.

We used to play the Bat Out Of Hell album out in the car while we “prepped” for getting on the Rocky Horror line at the Mini Cinema in Uniondale, on Long Island. Every Saturday at midnight for months at a time. Whatever Happened To Saturday Night anyway? I’ll never forget seeing him live, performing in a wheelchair. That cemented my undying respect for him that lasted to this day. RIP to truly one of a kind and beloved by millions.
