So I'm writing a graphic novel biography of David Bowie.

How did this come about, you ask?

UK artist and friend Marc Laming, who grew up in London in the '70s, posted this piece for a comic Bowie exhibit at Orbital in London.

Click for full size

I got in touch. Wrote some script, just found an amazing literary agent, now I have to write the other 90 pages and Marc has to draw 3 of them by March before we get the greenlight from the agency. But she's super nice and I'm pretty sure I've hooked her.

So the book is 100 pages, spanning the first album thru Hunky Dory. We hope to do 3 volumes altogether. We take you thru Bowie's musical career and spotlight 10 songs. And visually depict the songs in a surreal way. For example, during Space Oddity is when Bowie goes to space and meets a Venusian from Memory of a Free Festival.

Anyhow we're super excited, the research is fun and it's going to be amazing. Just thought you ICErs should know! I'll keep you updated.

Ha! If I can find where Bowie's talked about it I will. Otherwise I'll make something up. :)

Very cool news indeed!

That reminds me I really have to do a better job with self-promotion.

I hardly ever bump up my book thread.

That's my favourite Bowie song as well, 2nd is the acoustic version of Wide Eyed Boy From Freecloud which I have performed on stage. Special mention goes to Holy Holy

We used to play "Hang On To Yourself" and I still do it acoustically.

This is really going to be a cool idea Steve.

Rebel Rebel is the only DB song I remember playing pro in a band. I did Drive In Saturday on solo acoustic shows occasionally (no idea how I thought that would fit with the rest of my CSNY, Cockburn, etc show!) & played a number of Ziggy period DB songs just for fun (Ziggy, R&R Suicide, Width, etc). I think one band did attempt a demo of Cracked Actor; but our singer couldn't handle it.

:giggle: I am laughing because one of "our" singers in one of my bands was so limited but in his mind..... well you know.

Here's a related story about a full time cover band with a female lead singer I played with in my 20's. She was dating the other guitar player. They had a pre gig fight & she refused to go on stage. Everyone looked at me, & for one set I got stuck singling (warbling is a more correct word) Steve Perry, Pat Benatar, etc. The only way I could do this without totally tanking from embarrassment was to get REALLY DRUNK.

Fortunately for all concerned watching me "sing" 2 octaves beyond my range for 45 minutes gave her a wake up call & I guess she wanted the pay check........

Something to do with the Kama Sutra I believe. :shush:

I did.

It was about the wickedest oboe players of all time.

My next book will be about the real mystery behind the "No Roger, No Rerun, No Rent" scandal.

My band also used to do "Blue Jean" for fun and "Ziggy Stardust".

I still have soundboard recordings somewhere that are worth at least 5 cents.

Correct - it was called The Kama Nevra: A Guide To Celibacy. I was the main interview subject.
