Once the Mets had some home grown pitchers but now are dependent on mercenaries. Maybe it will work but probably not. What we are seeing is the end of the Mets trying to rebuild from within and from now on it will be a win now philosophy with all the costs that it means.

It didn't surprise me that he left; it surprised me that he went to San Diego. That's a lot of money tied up in 3 players for a long long time.
Oh, and we were talking about Dombrowski. I think we're still seeing the consequences of his stay in Boston. His chronic overspending leads to opportunity costs around trying to retain your own superstars.

I doubt it; they can probably find someone half my age and 2/3 my weight for only 2 or 3 times the money.
And as for disliking Bloom, there is a bit of an issue with bean counters as GMs - they don't overreact, which is good, but without passion, they never take the risks necessary to put them over the top.
I think there is a big difference between overpaying your own players, and overpaying a player for what they have accomplished for someone else. The Bogaerts contract is immensely stupid.

agreed, 11 years for a 30 year old shortstop.......i doubt he is still playing short at 35 or 36, let alone 41.
but i still wish boston had kept him.
they have let betts, benentendi and now bogaerts go....all home grown talent.

I have to say that Boegarts is a clutch hitter and I'm happy the Yanks won't have to face him as much.
