It’s the beginning of the season of Lent and you usually have to give something up that you love. This year is easy as the powers that be have taken baseball away from us. No Opening Day at Citifield is a blow. One of the greatest thrills in my life was attending the yearly Opening Day at Shea and then Citifield over the years with friends and family. Best day of the year.

The players have apparently agreed to an expanded postseason of 14 playoff teams, provided that in the first round the division winners get a "ghost win" advantage (start the series 1-0 so that their opponents have to win two games to advance but they only have to win one), and also get to choose the team they'll be facing.
they know that the NFL, and possibly the NBA, have surpassed them in popularity and they just really have no idea how to get it back.
it seems like they are willing to try just about thing to do it, but nothing is working....at all.
sadly, baseball has become a very expensive family outing and the times right now are not real conducive to a $300+ family outing to a major league game.
i went to one game last year and with gasoline and parking and a couple of snacks it cost the 2 of us almost $200, for not real good seats
of course, lowering the prices is absolutely not an option and players taking pay cuts is even less of an option......so i ask, what do they do?.

They need to do something they refuse to do. Break free from cable, and allow fans to stream their local team. Sports are the only thing keeping the cable companies alive.
The MLB deal is the first foray into live sports for Apple TV+. Its Friday Night Baseball package will feature two weekly matchups along with pre- and postgame shows, with no local blackouts. Apple will also produce MLB Big Inning, a live show featuring highlights and look-ins to games on every weeknight of the regular season.
That is a good start. Let me pay $149 a year to stream MLB, and give me the option of paying $69 a year for the Twins.
After working in the internet/TV industry for 20 plus years, I feel there about 10-12 channels people watch. That includes local channels but everybody's 10-12 channels are different. So, we get a lot of channels many people don't watch.
i will be brutally honest when i say that have not followed these negotiations very closely.
last night i picked up something about foreign player drafts and how they can't agree.
i will say this, if i made max scherzer money, and i was his age, there is no fucking way i would do any more stalling. the clock is ticking, and if he doesn't play this year he loses millions of dollars, right?

Well… hopefully this triggers off a whole series of trade/signing announcements… "ahem, which we didn't make secretly with the players within the last 99 days, really!"
Team vote was 26-4 for. Executive Committee was 8-0 against. 5 of the 8 players on the Executive are Boras clients. The 4 teams voting against were Met's, Yankees, Astro's, and Cardinals.
