He is fabulous during the regular season. Hopefully he stays healthy...but at his age there is considerable risk in terms of whether he will stay that way. I hope it works out for him and the Mets. Will miss him.
11 years is nuts for a 29 year old SS. I mean he has been a great SS but those skills will diminish and it is a very demanding position.
I will say, I do think it's very different with the DH in the National League now. So I could see him playing SS until 35, moving to second or first for a couple years, and then DH'ing for the last 3. So it's not impossible for him to contribute over the length of the deal, I am just not sure he won't be an overpaid second basemen or a weak DH for the last part of it.

this is another reason why the contract makes me nervous - it's Dombrowski doing it. A long, long history of overpaying through length of term, and leaving his ex-team holding the bag.

Realistically, this is more of a 7-year deal and if he’s still playing by year 11, ok then"
It could be, but I think SS is a much more wear you down type position than OF, and once your knees go, that's all she wrote in baseball.
I have little doubt that this will be a great deal for the Phillies for the first 5-6 years. Especially when you add the additional by subtraction impact on the Dodgers. But 36-40 is a scary time, and hard playing infielders can really fall off (cough, Donaldson, cough) faster than you expect.

Verlander goes to the Mets, Turner to the Phillies, deGrom to the Rangers....what has happened to the Yankees being the big free agent buyers? oh yeah, The New York Yankees have re-signed Brian Cashman to a four-year contract, the team announced.

The Yankees won't really do much until Judge is signed. Plus, they weren't really in on either of those pitchers.
Dombrowski does a good job of getting his team into the playoffs, and he even won a World Series with the Red Sox, but the organizations end up paying a price in the end. The Tigers haven’t been competitive for half a decade, and right now the Red Sox probably have the least talented roster in the AL East. The Phillies needed an upgrade at SS, but a 11 year $300 million dollar commitment was probably overkill considering the other salaries already on the books.

Dombrowski is what the Yankee fans think they want Cashman to be.
SAN DIEGO -- On Monday morning, the Yankees felt cautiously optimistic about their chances to sign Aaron Judge, though they had no idea when he would convey his decision. By the afternoon, a surprising twist had caught them off guard.
When Bryan Hoch of MLB.com first reported that Judge was visiting the Winter Meetings on Tuesday, it seemed at first like a potentially positive sign. Maybe the Yanks and Judge had major news to announce?
Actually, no. As it turned out, the Yankees had no idea Judge was coming, and still do not know why -- or even if -- he will be here, according to multiple team sources.
Does this sound like a positive sign for a team whose entire offseason revolves around re-signing Judge?
Speaking to reporters on Monday evening, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said that he did not have a feel for when Judge would decide.
