That '68 broadcast was pretty good. I hadn't heard of that one before. When I saw your post
I started wondering if someone had done an updated version with smartphone coverage, with
some CGI effects, etc. People can do pretty amazing things with software for little money these
days. I'll look around and see if someone's done one more recently.

Well… here's one from 2018:

Sounds pretty cheesy, though. Still, nice to get an 80th Anniversary attempt.

What I really like about the '68 version is that it's done by the actual on-air crew rather than actors like the Welles version. Must have been more "believable" to those in the northwest NY area to hear the voices they heard each day. It's also fun picking out the cast voices in Welles' version of those who later starred in Citizen Kane and Magnificent Ambersons a few years later: Ray Collins, Paul Stewart, William Alland.

I love the dvd of the Gene Barry version from the early fifties - if you look quick you can see Carolyn Jones in one of her first (non speaking) roles. It also contains the Orson Wells radio broadcast as an extra. Great movie! That and Forbidden Planet are the two best Sci Fi movies of all time.
