As much as I can get away with!
Usually 3-4 for me.

If I'm lucky enough to be in the office, I'll play CDs (at low volume) all day, at an average of 8 or 9. I'll play a CD on the drive to and from work (usually get through half a CD each day's commute), then if I'm lucky will play one at home in the evening and one getting ready for work the next day. I have a MASSIVE backlog of CDs I've not had time to play, and don't know when that will ever change...

In my single days it was probably 4-5 hours on a good day. On Sundays I would often load up my 5-CD changer and listen to one CD after another as I read through the papers, magazines, etc.
Now I adore my wife, but we didn't marry each other because of our mutual tastes in music. Therefore we spend a lot more of our time together watching TV, doing things with family, etc., than we do listening to music. My best times for music listening during the day are my 45 minute drives to and from work. I sometimes play music at the office, depending on what I'm doing that day, but I usually stick to instrumental music (jazz, classical) or oldies -- i.e., things that won't distract my attention too much from the work at hand. I did listen to a Sergio Mendes CD at home this past Saturday and it sounded so much better on my home system than in the car or at work that I vowed I am going to try to do that more often. Now all I have to do is get my wife to like the same music I do...

On the weekends, it is all waking hours. Work days - the commute, gym, and a good portion of the day, if I am at my desk...

I'm lucky to get an hour in, mostly driving around. More often I listen to NPR.

Maybe 45 minutes-just back and forth to work. I won't make my wife listen to music when I get home. However, I treasure EVERY minute I do listen to music, so there's that!

Because of my being hearing impaired and being very aware of any shifts I put my hearing through, I will listen to CD's for two nights and then take two full days off so that they recover. For quite a long time now, I've only been listening to one disc per setting, but there are those occasions where there will be two. Until I put my old system back up for listening with my hearing aids on, it's still the two nights through headphones without my hearing aids on on another system for me in the interim.

4 or so on a good day, mostly in the car or at the pc. If I have an especially long mindless day of customer service at the pc it can go up to 8-10. Only problem is on the rare occasion where I run into an issue & really have to think, I have to turn the tunes off.

Interestingly, ever since I was 11, and spending hours at the typewriter writing with the turntable going, I can only concentrate when there is music playing...and it doesn't matter what it is. The absense of music I find unnerving when I have to really concentrate (radio doesn't work though...talking is distracting.).

I'll never forget when I was in college & going through a radio program I had a friend who did a jazz show. Fact was, jazz & classical was the only music I could tune out enough to do my homework. I told my friend I did homework while listening to his show. Unfortunately he didn't take it as a compliment...........

Probably at the most...one hour a day.
When I'm working I do listen to radio for a few hours.

The absense of music I find unnerving when I have to really concentrate. I'm just the opposite -- I have trouble concentrating on other things when I'm listening to music. For me, since listening to music is literally an activity, I find it distracting to try to focus my mind on something else at the same time. I can do it, but then I'm not able to really enjoy the music, so it becomes pointless background noise. This is one of the reasons I never listen to music at work, and rarely when I'm on the computer. Of course, that leaves me with little time for listening, which is a bummer.

I listen to vocals concentrated, but when I read I can only listen to instrumentals, which most times will just be jazz.

I listen on a good day usually about four or five hours. Just got a couple of Dr Ebbetts cds. Rubber Soul and Beatles For Sale. Anyone want to buy some used Capitol cds?
