Well, that didn't take long - game 1 of the Pens-Rangers series went triple OT before Evgeni Malkin scored to give the Pens a 4-3 win.

The Pens had to start their backup, Casey DeSmith, because Tristan Jarry hasn't returned from a broken foot yet. In the second OT, he had to ask the referee to stop play and left the game, bringing in Louie Domingue. He's the first goalie in NHL history to enter a game in the 2nd OT or later. He played 16:40 and stopped the 17 shots he faced. And between the first and second OT, since he didn't expect to play, he had spicy pork and broccoli. DeSmith is being evaluated and is day to day, but currently listed as out for game 2. The Penguins only have one other goalie w/an NHL contract, so he'll likely be called up to backup Domingue.

Another bit of weirdness - the Rangers came out flying, outshooting the Pens 9-1 at one point. From that point on, the Pens outshot the Rangers 82-59.

What an epic game 7 OT win for the Rangers! The Rangers’ stars stepped up and Igor was great!

The Lightning and Avalanche are in the finals (and well-deserved, they are).

This is only the second time in the 4 major sports leagues that a championship has had two teams that do not have a nickname ending in ‘s’ facing one another.
