I frequent a Colts blog called Stampede Blue and it's clear that Matt Ryan is to the Falcons as Peyton Manning is to the Colts. Been seeing a lot of posts like these:

I've been a Falcons fan since I was 4 years old. I'm now 50. I'm also a die hard believer in Matt Ryan and it has pained me watching him not getting the respect he deserves (even from our own fan base). He's rarely had a sufficient supporting cast on one side of the ball or the other, a consistent coaching staff around him (and the greatest OC we've had made a terrible set of decisions attempting to close out a Superbowl that will not be mentioned...just run the damn ball, please). I'll be wearing a Colt's jersey this year, prioritizing Colts game viewing, and hoping he gets a ring with you guys this coming season.

I’ve always been a low key fan (rooted for the Colts against New Orleans). But now it’s full on. Former Falcons fan of 40+ years, but the way this was bungled is the final straw. Chris Ballard worked this deal brilliantly and took advantage of the new Falcons GM. They (the Falcons front office) completely botched it from the fawning over and genuflecting for Watson (he played the Falcons, too) to trading Matt for a mere 3rd round pick and eat $40M dead cap. It’s incompetence at its worst. So, here I am. A new Colts fan.

Falcons fan here, as long as he is with you guys, you are my rooting interest in the AFC. I so badly want to be able to point to a Super Bowl win for you guys this next year just to prove to all of the doubters in my own fan base that he wasn’t the problem. Really want to see that horseshoe on the next championship ring
Much different than the Eagles fans who hit the boards after the Wentz trade, to either goof on Indy or send their sympathies.
This bodes wayyyyy better than Wentz for the Colts.
They will need to have Ryan get the ball out quick since he’s so immobile, but I think it will work out far better than the Wentz fiasco.
Deshaun Watson’s presser will be today at 1PM. We haven’t heard him speak in a long time so the Q&A will be interesting. Will Baker be there to shake his hand and take a photo?

They bring him in with that mega deal but then act, who is that?

It does seem like Wentz's coaches always love him.
Quote:
“They’re getting a player who, first of all, is a highly intelligent player, who can process a lot of information quickly,” said Colts head coach Frank Reich, who also served as Wentz’s offensive coordinator with the Eagles. “They’re getting a guy who, physically, is a prototype NFL quarterback. They’re getting a guy who, I think, can be a top-10 quarterback. I really believe he can be a top-10 quarterback.
“That’s not just a given. That has to be earned and proven, so we’re all hoping that happens for him.”
Alphabetical order put new Jacksonville Jaguars coach Doug Pederson, the other man who has served as Wentz’s gameday head coach, one table over from Reich.
“They’re getting a tremendous leader, they’re getting a really good quarterback, they’re getting a guy that’s going to lead that football team, and he’ll lead that locker room,” said Pederson, the Eagles’ coach from 2016 to 2020. “He’s going to do everything on and off the field to help that team win.”
Wentz’s only problem is he has brain farts and tries to do too much in tight situations. He has the tools, throws TDs and doesn’t have an impossible amount of INTs but they do happen at the wrong time too. I also think INTs can be over rated. Many times the ball bounces of the receivers hands for the INT. Not too many are right to the hands of the defender.

Honestly, after watching the games, interceptions weren't the main issue since so many of them weren't actually hauled in by defenders. The main issue just seemed to be a lack of processing speed, despite what Reich says. He looks downfield and takes too long to get to checkdowns and other options, resulting in stalled drives. Toward the end of the season, defenses were like, "we'll stack the box and make Wentz beat us through the air" and it generally worked. Look at the Jags game -- bottom three passing defense who were selling out to stop the run -- and Wentz couldn't make them pay.
The Colts' GM said it during the season-ending press conference -- "Make the lay ups. Just make the lay ups." That's probably Wentz's biggest issue. He wants to play hero ball and throw the low percentage bomb downfield instead of taking the easier, high percentage throws that end up creating successful drives. Just look at Brady -- very few throws are spectacular, he just makes on-time reads and deliveries.
His issues are summed up well by this video by Kurt Warner.

And Brett Favre never stopped being Brett Favre, so if you can't live with these brain cramps, you better find a different QB. Because he's always going to try and be the hero. It's the same reason I am always distrustful of running QB's; it's not that they aren't great athletes, or able to help you win, it's that their instincts for the game aren't quite aligned with what I need a QB to be able to do - read ability, accuracy, release speed, and arm strength. Pretty much in that order. And their physical ability (and Wentz's for that matter) give them an out which means they never forced to get better at the mental part of the game. Until they've been in the league for 5-6 years, and by then, it's too late.
I’ve always found Brady to be one of the most boring QBs to watch because he is so damn efficient. He does not play hero ball and let it fly, he is methodical. But it works so kudos to him but it is a hell lot of more fun to watch cowboy QBs.

Some guys can do both -- Rodgers, Mahomes, Allen, etc. That said, I still love to watch a pocket passer like Peyton Manning.

I’ve never enjoyed watching Brady operate but love to watch Rodgers or Mahomes or Allen or many of the legendary QBs of the past especially guys like Montana or Fouts.
But that’s just me, many others enjoy is killer instinct. He has the rings.

Steelers QB Dwayne Haskins was struck by a car and killed in Florida. Only 24.
Quote:
“I am devastated and at a loss for words with the unfortunate passing of Dwayne Haskins,” Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said in a statement. “He quickly became a part of our Steelers family upon his arrival in Pittsburgh and was one of our hardest workers, both on the field and in our community. Dwayne was a great teammate, but even more so a tremendous friend to so many. I am truly heartbroken. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Kalabrya, and his entire family during this difficult time.”
RIP, sir.

am i the only one who cannot wait until this NFL draft is over?
every day on multiple channels and everywhere on the internet are mock drafts.
enough i say, enough.
Not me this year; no top of the draft drama, the Raiders are middle of the pack (not even sure they have one), the Jays leading the AL after 10% of the season, and the Raptors about to do something that's never been done before. Plenty of stuff for me that isn't the draft this year.
I'll keep an eye on it - but the Raptors play Thursday so that'll be the focus.
I love the draft. I used to take the school day off to watch if I could.
marcus,
i enjoy it too, it just seems like this year is overkill when it comes to mock drafts.
I've also noticed that there feels like a ridiculous number of mock drafts. I just skip them, they seem totally pointless unless you're just obsessed with it and need some sort of fix until it actually happens.
I think the big problem for me personally is that the draft seems like such a total crapshoot, even outside QB. You've got first rounders that don't amount to shit and then you have guys in the lower rounds / undrafted that end up having Pro Bowl or Hall of Fame careers. So you don't really know on draft day whether your team did good, you have to wait a couple of seasons to find out.
Add to that the Colts don't even have a first rounder this year and I'm not overly excited... though the Colts have proven to be great at drafting in the second round (Darius Leonard, Jonathan Taylor, Michael Pittman).
