I frequent a Colts blog called Stampede Blue and it's clear that Matt Ryan is to the Falcons as Peyton Manning is to the Colts. Been seeing a lot of posts like these: Quote: I've been a Falcons fan since I was 4 years old. I'm now 50. I'm also a die hard believer in Matt Ryan and it has pained me watching him not getting the respect he deserves (even from our own fan base). He's rarely had a sufficient supporting cast on one side of the ball or the other, a consistent coaching staff around him (and the greatest OC we've had made a terrible set of decisions attempting to close out a Superbowl that will not be mentioned...just run the damn ball, please). I'll be wearing a Colt's jersey this year, prioritizing Colts game viewing, and hoping he gets a ring with you guys this coming season. Quote: I’ve always been a low key fan (rooted for the Colts against New Orleans). But now it’s full on. Former Falcons fan of 40+ years, but the way this was bungled is the final straw. Chris Ballard worked this deal brilliantly and took advantage of the new Falcons GM. They (the Falcons front office) completely botched it from the fawning over and genuflecting for Watson (he played the Falcons, too) to trading Matt for a mere 3rd round pick and eat $40M dead cap. It’s incompetence at its worst. So, here I am. A new Colts fan. Quote: Falcons fan here, as long as he is with you guys, you are my rooting interest in the AFC. I so badly want to be able to point to a Super Bowl win for you guys this next year just to prove to all of the doubters in my own fan base that he wasn’t the problem. Really want to see that horseshoe on the next championship ring Much different than the Eagles fans who hit the boards after the Wentz trade, to either goof on Indy or send their sympathies.

Quote: Another blockbuster coming? Despite an offer from the Chiefs that would make superstar Tyreek Hill one of the highest-paid receivers, extension talks have stalled and Kansas City has now given Hill’s agent permission to seek a trade, sources tell me and Tom Pelissero Wow Tyreek might be a available. He is a true game changer.

Whoa, that's a serious gamechanger for KC! It seems so much of the play design is dependent on him being able to dust just about every DB he's up against.

Chiefs are trading six-time Pro-Bowl WR Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins for five draft picks: a 2022 1st-round pick (No. 29), a 2nd-round pick (No. 50) and a 4th-round pick, as well as 4th- and 6th-round picks in the 2023 draft, sources tell ESPN. The Jets' offer was actually worth more by the draft pick point system and was accepted by the Chiefs. But Florida has no state income tax and Hill lives in Miami in the off season. So, he picked the Dolphins.

I also think that already having one ring radically alters this math. While the ability to win multiple super bowls starts moving people into the upper pantheon of football players, the reality is the legacy difference between 1 and 2 is much smaller than between 0 and 1. But landing a $30 million a year contract is life altering in a way that maybe the kind of contract he'd have had to sign in KC to keep the band together would not have been. And with Hill already being a 6 yeah pro - and a speed guy, not a possession guy - he has to know the clock is really ticking.

I understand that is a mountain of cash, and he has shown incredible talent, but I wondered if he struggled with the concept of leaving Mahomes and the chance of going to multiple Super Bowls, and putting up Hall of Fame level numbers. He must not have struggled that much. The Chiefs offered him a hefty amount of more money. But he wanted something heftier. SEE Davante Adams' contract with the Raiders — raising the tide of WR paychecks everywhere. That pretty much derailed the talks with KC. Tyreek wanted the stratosphere. On the other side, from the KC point of view, it frees up money and helps avoid a future problem with the payroll cap. There are also some rough edges to the personality side of Tyreek (i.e. his reported history of abuse, along with possible ego problems). Plus, at age 28, he's not going to get any faster. In addition to that, it kind of felt to me like the classic Chiefs-Raiders rivalry would have become the Tyreek-Davante Game over the next few seasons. Something they both probably would have enjoyed. Apparently Tyreek may have liked that big paycheck rivalry idea better than the prospect of being attached to Mahomes for the rest of his career for a much juicier ride to the HoF. The Dolphins? Really? They've only hit double figure wins twice in the past 18 seasons, with a grand total of two Wild Card losses. My brother says Tyreek has now become just another fast receiver out there. It seems reasonable that a thinking person wouldn't have to struggle very hard with those kinds of legacy elements. Money vs ____ .... well, not versus anything... just $$. Maybe new scenery, maybe not. That's my take anyway.
