I read Seattle was interested in Mayfield. Atlanta might want him now too after dealing with Ryan, but more likely that they're going into full rebuild mode. I saw they have $60 million in dead cap this year... unbelievable if true.

Looks like Atlanta just signed Marcus Mariota to a two-year deal.

I always wondered who the Jets would have picked if they had the #1 that year Mayfield went #1 to the Browns? The Jets of course then went with Darnold (when it turns out Allen was the right answer). But it’s looking like both Mayfield and Darnold are not the answer for anybody.

FTFY

Although.. looking at Mayfield / Darnold the BMOC attitude should be more of a red flag than I think it is. You need somebody* who has to fight and claw for things, for whom it doesn't come too easily. I'm beginning to think you want a QB between 15 and 40, and not the top 5. Of course, I also think if you're drafting in the top 5, without a traceable serious injury to cause it, then the team is probably the problem, and a rookie QB isn't going to save it.

In other news, the tank is on in Atlanta. Their Superbowl hangover turned into alcohol poisoning, and they're still dealing with the consequences of being not quite good enough; Jones gone, Ryan gone, a bunch of the defense gone. A lot of dead money, and the only good outcome this year will be "The Falcons are now on the clock"

Matt Ryan is less mistake prone than Wentz so this should work out nice for the Colts. But the Colts losing their last 2 games wasn’t just on Wentz alone so that should be addressed.

I’m optimistic about Matt Ryan. It’s going to be a long 6 months!

Yowza.

“There are very few — if any — teams interested in Mayfield. The former first overall pick is in the final year of his rookie deal, and he is set to earn a whopping $18.8 million next season. ESPN’s Adam Schefter said Monday that one team told the Browns they would need to receive a draft pick in any potential deal for Mayfield just to take on the quarterback’s contract.”

I watched both games and think he was the primary reason they lost to the Raiders. He wasn’t the only reason they lost to the Jags but I think a good quarterback beats the worst team in the NFL.

That said, I do wonder if COVID-19 had something to do with that. I’ve heard about Covid lung and some of the other after effects, and feel that I am experiencing some of them myself, so that could factor into it as well.

So the Colts trade Carson for a third rounder, use a third rounder to trade for Matt Ryan, who ends up being $5 million cheaper this season then Carson. And if Wentz plays 70% of the snaps for Washington, it turns into a 2nd round pick.

That Chris Ballard is a wizard.

Me too.

Quote:
In Ryan, the Colts get a quarterback seven years older than Wentz but two years younger than Philip Rivers was when he landed here in 2020. Ryan is a polished pro, with a quick release and an accurate arm, and he’s been lauded throughout his career for his pre-snap recognition and command of the playbook. (Former Colt Jacob Tamme, who played with both quarterbacks, once compared Ryan’s preparation to that of Peyton Manning. That’s no small compliment.) His 42 game-winning drives were not something the Colts overlooked; a team that went 2-5 in one-score games in 2021 knows it must be better in the fourth quarter.

Dating back to 2016, Ryan’s MVP season, he leads the league in passing yards, is fifth in touchdowns (167) and seventh in completion percentage (67). His play has dipped in recent years, but he played behind a horrendous offensive line in 2021 (the Falcons allowed 124 QB hits, most in the league) and had little skill talent around him save rookie tight end Kyle Pitts. He threw for nearly 4,000 yards last season with his top receiver, Calvin Ridley, out for over half the season and wideout Cordarrelle Patterson converting to running back.

The Falcons had the 29th-ranked scoring defense last year and the 31st-ranked rushing attack. The Colts were ninth on defense and second in rushing (thank you, Jonathan Taylor).

By any objective measure, the team around Ryan will be much better in 2022.

Matt Ryan was my fantasy QB for 3 separate seasons, so I paid a lot of attention to him; he's going to be great for Indy, and I have to think the tank is on in Atlanta (Mariota!?) If Henry gets injured again, I could see Indy getting the Bye in the AFC

Other news - Fournette back to Tompa Bay on a 3 year deal, like that matters in in the NFL. Rams- Bucs in the NFC Championship I guess.

They don't really have much choice -- after this trade and combined with other players, I think they have $60 million in dead cap. It would be pretty hard for them to compete even if they wanted to... trading Matt Ryan ended up saving them $9 million to the cap, I think I read.

Honestly, he was the most hit quarterback in the NFL, I think trading him is a mercy at this point. There's no way they can compete, their roster and cap has been totally mismanaged.

Since Cleveland has traded for Watson, they eventually are gonna have to a presser for him, introduce him to the Media and fans, walk around the stadium/ field, photo opps. Usually it’s done within a week of a signing.

How can they do that with Baker Mayfield still on the team?

And a lot of fans aren't happy they signed Watson at all given his history.

I could imagine, he is a sexual predator. He might not get prosecuted but 22 civil complaints is a hell of a lot.

Looks like outside of his second year, he's always graded above average by PFF.

I could imagine, he is a sexual predator. He might not get prosecuted but 22 civil complaints is a hell of a lot.

women in cleveland have openly expressed their displeasure with watson.

22 civil complaints is a whole lot, but so is 230 million dollars......let me do the math here......230 million - 15 million (that'd be a half million per complaint, and, as we all know, many many civil cases are settled out of court) leaves 215 million over the next 5 years , which leaves watson 43 million a year and everything is all cleared up. just sayin. :sigh:

as for mayfield, that whole thing just keep getting uglier and uglier. it seems as though he found out about watson the same way we all did (classy cleveland, very classy) and he has said he will not report for anything, anywhere, anytime that has to do with the browns. and i do not blame him one bit.......i would not even take a chance on stubbing a toenail if i were him.

and lastly, as stated above, it looks like no team even wants him.....so, the browns either cut him, trade him for peanuts or keep him on the team, which is by far the worst possible choice.

and john is right, there will be a meet and greet soon, they have to..
