I never planned on going there anyways,

it has become a terrible tourist trap, parking anywhere close is outrageous, food is through the roof and admission is $28 per person.

1, you read that correctly, 1 solo US top 20 single (written by prince) and 4 US top 20 with rufus, and i'm pretty sure that was before it rufus featuring chaka khan.

i don't get it either.

If you're talking hits, do 16 top 20 hits with Rufus on the U.S R&B charts and 13 top 20 solo R&B hits count for anything?

If hits are a criteria I would have to include them.

As far as Chaka Khan goes, I wouldn't mind her getting in at all. She has been around long enough to get in ahead of some of the others. I enjoyed her work especially with Rufus. As far as a singer and performer I think she was influential, which I believe was a top original criteria for the hall.

It would be nice if we could focus on the artists we feel deserve to be in without criticizing or disparaging the ones we personally don't find worthy. We can tear apart the hall all we want, but they will always induct someone we personally aren't a fan of. We can heap the praise on the artists we want to see in without knocking down the ones we aren't a fan of.

those chart hits are truly wonderful.....for the R & B charts and the R& B hall of fame or the popular music hall of fame......, the whole fucking thing needs an overhaul and that is not going to happen, it's too late, too much money invested in the building and the hype.

it is what it is and the IMWAN board or any internet web site is not ever going to change it.

i can only say for certain that i will never visit there again and i am in cleveland more than 10 times a year.

The weird thing is I’ve never been there and always wanted to see it at least once. I was seriously considering a trip there with Jimbo to see it and also the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton. We probably would have gone in 2019. And then a stop in Pittsburgh.

I would probably find it a disappointment, as I didn’t love the Baseball Hall of Fame despite the beautiful town it’s located in Upstate NY.

One of the last conversations I had with Jimbo (before the accident) was planning our next adventure. Nashville was on the menu as was of course Cleveland. I’d love to see a ballgame there and probably would have waited till the Yankees were in town (for Jimbo’s sake). Would have been a great time.
After the accident Jimbo was in too bad a shape to even discuss travel plans.

As usual, the idiots at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame are in full stupid mode.

If Iron Maiden is inducted, these are the members that will go into the Hall of Fame-
Steve Harris
Dave Murray
Clive Burr
Paul Di'anno
Dennis Stratton
Adrian Smith
Bruce Dickinson
Nicko McBrain
Janick Gers

Here are the members that won't go into the Hall of Fame-
Doug Sampson
Blaze Bailey

Dennis Stratton was in the band for less than 1 year, played on their first album but never had a single songwriting credit. He would be inducted.
Doug Sampson was out of the band before the first album but did do the drums on their first independent EP and also played drums on the B-side of their first single. He would not be inducted, reasonable IMO as he never played on any of their full length studio albums.
Blaze Bailey sang on two albums, was in the band for 6 years, did world tours with the band and received songwriting credits on 8 songs. He would not be inducted, even though a guitarist who was with the band for less than a year and didn't get any songwriting credits would be inducted.

Not as crazy as what they did with Kiss (Eric Carr!!) but still ridiculous and pretty disrespectful to Blaze Bailey.

I guess that's why I don't get highly upset about all of this. You said the name should be "the popular music hall of fame." I would have no problem with that, but from the inception, the artists inducted have never been what I think or you would consider rock and roll. I don't understand how James Brown, Marvin Gaye and Sam Cook who were inducted in the 1st year would fit the definition of what you might call rock n' roll? Are Simon & Garfunkel, Bobby Darin and The Four Seasons really rock and roll man? (I think their inductions are well deserved) So no matter the rock n' roll hall name, I don't see how it is such a surprise that for example Chaka Khan or Carole King are nominated these years later? I think I am going to take the advice that was posted earlier and be happy for my favorite artists that are inducted without knocking other artists or the perceived genre they belong in.

The Rock N Roll part is just pure marketing, sounds cool. But it is truly the Popular Music Hall of Fame. I don’t mind what they call it but many of the bands left out all these years is bordering on criminal.

This may be the weakest list yet. I do follow this each year because I know it means a lot to many of the artists who have still been left out. The biggest problem for me is if you want to include so many genres, don't call it Rock and Roll. My favorites that were omitted once again:

Jethro Tull
Mott the Hoople
ELP
King Crimson
Little Feat

If they didn't put in Dio with Sabbath, they're not putting in Bayley with Maiden.

That being said, it's beyond ridiculous Stratton would be in and even he admitted that.

When Deep Purple got in, they put in Evans and Simper but not Bolin, Morse and Airey.

I swear the Hall of Shame knows absolutely nothing.

The 'hall' can retroactively 'fix' those band members that got left out, they actually did that a few years ago. Mick Fleetwood oughta get off his duff and get Bob Welch in there pronto before he (Mick) croaks. How does he live with himself / sleep at night?

It's also unconscionable that Steppenwolf isn't in there...

yes, i think that most music aficionados agree that the rock and roll hall of fame is real clusterfuck of a mess. but the real music aficionados are not the people that those in charge of the rock hall are catering to, they are catering to the general public, the people who listen to sirius (70's, 80's 90's and pop and R&B channels) radio and FM radio and watch MTV and VH! (if those stations even still exist and play music, i truly do not know?).

the hall has become a big big tourist trap, one of the main attractions in downtown cleveland, it is very expensive and its location is quite isolated in that, unless you want walk or uber, you will pay the outrageous parking prices that are charged anywhere nearby. the great lakes science center is right next door and is also a big tourist trap. and right next to that is browns stadium (no need to explain parking price for pro football). it now cost $29 per person to get in.

food prices are, in a word exorbitant (and there nowhere within walking distance of the hall or science center to eat) so you are basically captive to their prices unless you want to leave, drive or uber, and come back.

souvenir price are truly sinful, literally.

the single biggest problem in my old, but wise, mind however, is that the rock hall is past the point of no return. it is truly unfixable. putting james brown, sam cooke and ray charles in the first class set the tone for what was to come. i don't want to argue whether those 3 are rock and roll or not, because some will say yes and some will say no, but then the coasters, marvin gaye, aretha franklin and bb king were in the next class and it was all over but the shouting.

the only logical solution that i can think of is to change the name to 'popular music hall of fame.....or.....musical stars since world war II shrine.....or something in that vein. then the real rock and roll people will no longer complain.

finally, start a real ROCK AND ROLL tribute hall or shrine to real rock and roll stars: induct the beatles, the rolling stones and the beach boys first and then take your time and do it right, year by year by year, letting every artist that contributed to the long history of rock and roll be honored with a nice plaque that will be there forever. in 100 years a kid go in there and see a plaque for the standells and look them up on whatever means they are using then and listen to their music and learn about the history of rock and roll. and why boston red sox fans listen to 'dirty water'.
