I liked Conforto, but he's purely about the money. I'd rather have the solid, dependable Marte in the outfield with his great attitude, even if he has a lower ceiling than Conforto.
All in all, I think I'd rather have Buxton at those rates...Siemen was great for the Jays, and in Oakland, but I can't help but think they are going to regret that contract in a big way.
Blue Jays get Gausmann, and I agree about Semiem, a 7 year deal to a guy going into his age 31 season. That last 75 million will probably be poorly spent.

Buxton was extended by the Twins. That's a lot of years for Semien.

I'm happy about this; I prefer Gausman to Ray as a pair for Berrios. Now we just need a scrap heap number 5 to compete with Stripling / Pearson, or replace Pearson if he gets dealt.
Also, we need an infielder. Still would like Ramirez from Cleveland. He'd look good in Blue, and wouldn't have to call himself a Guardian. Double Bonus.
Oh, and it looks like we're about to get baseball's first $40 Million AAV contract. From the Mets even...
I did see the Mitchell thing today when I was looking, so sure, add him to the list this year and put him in as a First Ballot Hall of Famer; what's one more perp; Boston strong attitude and beloved status in Beantown not withstanding. I do get it. Whatever it takes to end the discussion of the Hall of Fame and Steroids THIS year. Hell, throw in Schilling, so they don't have to talk about any negative stuff next year and beyond. I just don't want 10 more years of steroid era debates.
You and me, both.
I lost track of this thread over the holidays. According to this list in the Baseball Almanac, Ortiz is not one of the players listed in the Mitchell report. https://www.baseball-almanac.com/legend ... port.shtml. I did read elsewhere, however, that he was so I don't know what's true. I do know that once MLB started its testing program in 2004, Ortiz never failed a drug test.

3 years, $130 million for Scherzer. Based on his last 2 full seasons, he is getting $62,530 per batter. The Met's will be paying him approximately $1,238,094 to give up home runs.
Too bad we had to deal with Boras, but at least he didn't play us like Matz's agent did.
Mets are supposedly still in the hunt for top quality starters, so WAN should expect more moves in that area, and who knows what else. Eppler is doing great out of the gate, and Cohen is everything a Met fan could have hoped for.

This contract is absolutely insane. $43 million/year for a guy who will be nearly 38 on opening day.
