just read schilling told the red sox that if he got in her was going to wear a diamondbacks cap.
the guy just likes to piss people off doesn't he, i think he gets his jollies form it.
I'm not sure Schilling has a choice. When Wade Boggs supposedly got money to wear a Devil Rays hat in the HOF, the Hall thought it was better that they make the choice.

marcus,
you are correct....almost........as it does get a wee bit convoluted.
TOKYO (AP) Masahiro Tanaka is returning to pitch for his former team in Japan after seven seasons with the New York Yankees.
The Rakuten Eagles of the Pacific League said Thursday the 32-year-old free agent had signed a two-year contract. Local media reported the deal was worth almost $9 million annually.
Dustin Pedroia announces retirement; Boston Red Sox second baseman ends career after 14 seasons.
Red Sox still owe him a little more than $30 million total thru 2028.
It's one thing if the team 'fired' him, but since he's announced his retirement, you'd think he'd forfeit any future compensation. Those are the rules that apply to me.

$12 million is his 2021 salary, which I agree, he should forfeit. The rest comes from his $2.125 million annual deferment on his contract. (2021-2028.)
The Sox probably needed that roster spot so they told him if he retired he'd get his full pay? He could have stuck around and done nothing and still have collected it.
Just my two cents.
He deserves it as he's been an icon for them.

Grant Jackson, the winning pitcher the last time the Pirates won the World Series, passed away early Tuesday morning due to complications from COVID-19. He was 78.
Jackson, a crafty left-handed reliever, pitched for six teams over 18 major league seasons, including two separate stints with the Pirates (1977-81 and 1982).
Though he was an All-Star with the Phillies in 1969, Jackson did some of his best work with the Pirates in 1979, when he went 8-5 with a 2.96 ERA in a career-high 72 appearances. Jackson set another career-high with 14 saves while striking out 39 and walking 35 in 82 innings.
The Fostoria, Ohio native was nearly unhittable in the postseason that year, as he gave up no runs and two hits across six appearances (6 2/3 innings pitched) in the National League Championship Series and the World Series.

Bauer is an odd duck. I think you are right, and probably not a good fit for NY. Now the Met's can sign one of the secondary starters and a CF using the same money.
