It will be interesting to see what Kluber has left in him as he enters his age 35 season. From 2014-18 the guy was phenomenal, but hasn’t really pitched the last 2 years. At $11 million, if the Yankees can win 60% of his starts, they will be pleased.

The Yankees had the inside track. Kluber is rehabing at Creesey Performance with Eric Creesey, the Yankees' director of health and performance.

It is definitely a low risk/high reward deal for both parties.
Steve Cohen did right. Now we can hire a GM who isn't a frat boy.
Quote:
“We have terminated Jared Porter this morning. In my initial press conference, I spoke about the importance of integrity and I meant it,” Cohen said. “There should be zero tolerance for this type of behavior.”
Also, compare to the Wilpons' unwavering support for every unprofessional transgression from their staff no matter how bad it made the Mets look. Cohen handled this like a boss.

Padres get: RHP Joe Musgrove Mets get: LHP Joey Lucchesi Pirates get: OF Hudson Head, RHP David Bednar, LHP Omar Cruz, RHP Drake Fellows from the Padres and C/OF Endy Rodriguez from the Mets

Joey Lucchesi is a fifth starter or long relief. The Mets need more pitching depth, but trading yet another decent prospect ... I don't know, I hope it was Porter's idea and these kinds of deals won't be made going forward. Somebody equivalent could have been signed without a trade.
The payroll rankings are starting to mimic the local tv revenue rankings, and their are huge inequities, but I am not sure what the answer is. Payroll data according to Spotrac.

Let’s not forget the accusations against Cohen about harassment in the workplace for women.
He’s quite the guy to be talking about integrity.
From Jan. 5:
New York Mets owner Steve Cohen is accused of using vulgar, abusive language toward female employees and fostering a culture of sexism at his hedge fund, according to a gender discrimination complaint unsealed and revealed to the New York Times.
The Times reported on the complaint on Tuesday in the latest of a pattern of allegations of sexism against his Point72 Asset Management hedge fund. Cohen purchased the Mets in September in the shadow of separate complaints of hostility toward women at Point72.
The complaint revealed on Tuesday was filed by former Point72 portfolio manager Sara Vavra, who was fired in October 2019. Vavra accuses Cohen of belittling her in front of her colleagues via an “an abusive, expletive-ridden tirade” while using a derogatory word for a woman’s genitals, per the Times.
Vavra said the alleged verbal abuse continued in a separate incident in front of more colleagues that same day.
From the report:
“Cohen ridiculed me, calling me an ‘idiot’ and incompetent,” she said in the complaint. “He told me that I was ‘wrong about everything.’” She said he added, “I should fire you because you’re so stupid.”
According to the complaint, those incidents occurred in July 2019. She was fired three months later. Vavra filed the complaint in the summer of 2020, and the Times obtained it via a freedom of information request after it was recently unsealed.

Sandy Alderson can do the job himself (and mostly has during this off-season, anyway) so it's hardly a disaster. I'm pleased that they're not promoting the assistant GM Zack Scott immediately, since he has work history with Porter and maybe needs to be vetted more thoroughly (or let go too).
Very happy with Steve Cohen's running of the Mets so far, in both good and bad situations.
It took an extra year to get him to come to Canada, and I expect he'll be playing left field by the time it's over, but this was the move they had to make. It will silence all the fans who crapped all over Shatkins for not being Anthopoulous for all time, lengthen our line up, and get Randal Grichuk out of Centre Field. Now, as long as the fan in the white t-shirt can bang a garbage can, we'll be good
I also like the Kirby Yates signing. 1 year at $5.5M for 2019's saves leader (can up to $9M with incentives). A prove it deal, with a monster arm.
They're not done - too many outfielders now, and they still need another starter - but damn, I haven't felt this way about a free agent since they signed Molitor.
