At least never too old to break your first bone. I made it just over 57 years. Last one in my family to do it - wife and both kids have had broken bones. My mother and sister both did, for sure, and I think my dad did.
Rolled my foot stepping onto the porch yesterday when my buddy brought over some barbecue sauce. I went out because I had some stuff for him and because we haven't seen each other in 7 months. Heard the snap, too, but I was trying to convince myself it was the door handle or maybe a tendon or something like a knuckle popping. Went out and got lunch, came back and put ice on it, and then it swelled up and started to bruise, so I called my podiatrist and got the x-ray. He walked in the room and barely looked at the x-ray before he said, "Yep, you broke it." So, air cast and no weight on it for four weeks.
On the plus side, I get chauffeured to Record Store Day tom'w, and my wife has to carry all my purchases!!!!
Hell of a way to start vacation, Johnny...

Unless you exclude fingers and toes, most everyone has broken a bone. Maybe cracked ribs, too. But they never know it's broken - just that they hurt for a while.
I snapped my tibia and fibula when I was 13. SNAP! No mistaking that. Sounded like a dry stick snapping. No fun. At first I didn't believe it, so I tried to get up. WOW! Instantly decided that was a bad idea. I can hardly believe it when I see people in shows who supposedly broke a bone and yet the hobble away or people carry them or support them without a splint and they aren't screaming their heads off.
6 weeks in a cast for that. But I was merely 13. I hope to avoid any more major broken bones as I head into 60 and beyond, but I suspect I either won't make it, or I might die while breaking something major. You get older, you start falling down more and your bones can't take the pounding they used to. It is what it is.
Take it easy, and get well soon.

Hell of a way to start vacation, Johnny... sorry to hear that, broken bones are not fun at al, lots of negatives to be sure. and.be careful on those crutches, those things can be dangerous, the last time i required crutches i opted for a walker instead. much easier n the hands and armpits. heal quickly

Get well Alan! As a former EMT/ Paramedic I can tell you, falling down is very very bad for anyone especially when one gets on in years. I am one of those people who have never broken a bone despite all the time I spent outdoors doing dangerous things. I try to be careful now that I have hit 60. The bright side is at least you can play the guitar sitting down!

BB King played guitar sitting down both times I saw him. Therefore sitting down is the cool way to play guitar.

Wishing you a speedy recovery, Alan. Lower leg injuries are the worst!

Feel better! I'm probably jinxing myself but I'm still without a broken bone at age 60. That includes playing a whole lot of old school Brooklyn tackle football (which means on cement, without equipment lol).

Hey Alan! Sorry to hear about this. I did get one of these doohickeys when I tore my Achilles about 10 years back and my wife used one when she broke her foot last summer. They work like crazy. “And it goes like the dickens.....dit, dadit, dadit, dadit!”

Thanks for the good wishes, everybody. PITA not being able to carry anything around. Renny wrote: and.be careful on those crutches, those things can be dangerous, the last time i required crutches i opted for a walker instead. much easier n the hands and armpits. My wife has already offered up her walker. She’s enjoying this a bit too much, if you ask me! JohnG wrote: Get well Alan! The bright side is at least you can play the guitar sitting down! All the stupid stuff I’ve done (including playing tackle football w/no equipment years ago), never had an issue. No real injuries to point to. Then I break this SOB stepping onto the porch. Still not as bad as my buddy who broke his wrist close to 30 years ago - reaching for a door knob. Not running for it, not falling and reaching out, just walking up to the door, reaching out and missing the knob. And I’m gonna try to play some this week, but working my pedals is not gonna be easy! Back to the doctor for a follow-up today. He saw his shadow, so three more weeks of boot. But I’m off the crutches, so I’m more mobile and a bit less dependent.
And yes, Jack, those three were all PRS - my DGT, 408, and Silver Sky (l-r). My son helped me arrange them and took the picture.
