Hope everyone enjoys a clip here of ELP at High Voltage yesterday (especially Rick, John, Jimbo and Phil)-they sound really good, especially Greg Lake. Hope to hell they tour the US. Set list was boring but it usually is, and it was a festival after all. Nice to see "Farewell To Arms" from Black Moon though!

Thanks IP, Glad to see that they filmed this and hopefully other bands as well (like Uriah Heep who did "Demons & Wizards" in it's complete sequence and a reformed Argent).
Looks like Keith chose to use a midi keyboard to play instead of the Hammond in this track. It must be because of his injury.

ELP’s Keith Emerson recovering from surgery Emerson Lake And Palmer’s keyboard master Keith Emerson has opened up to fans via Facebook about some recent surgery he underwent.
Make that surgeries. Plural.
“This all started during a routine medical that incorporated an endoscopy, MRI, blood tests - all of which turned out OK,” writes Keith. “Finally, my doctor looked up my past medical records. ‘I see it’s been over five years since your last colonoscopy. To be safe it is time for another.’ That test caused concern with the reveal of a dangerous polyp situated in my large colon. It was decided that I should have it removed for analysis immediately. This involved laparoscopic surgery and a two-inch incision in my stomach to remove about two inches of the colon it was attached to.”
“However, surgery showed up more than anyone had bargained for. A large section of my lower colon was afflicted with a diverticular disease with significant number of diverticula and it all had to come out - nearly a foot and a half of it!”
The colonoscopy surgery was complete, but left Emerson wondering about the outcome. “When I came round from the anesthetic, I discovered that I had been cut from the lower end of my rib cage to the pubic region, and what they had taken out was now in the laboratory for analysis. It would be a week before I knew the results.”
Emerson and his doctors faced a more immediate issue to deal with. “Meanwhile, as I lay hoping I might be recovering, I was bleeding heavily, internally,” Keith explains. "The initial response was to wait and see if the two parts of the healthy colon had bonded successfully and the bleeding would stop.”
“It didn’t.”
“Two blood transfusions later at 11PM, I was told I had no option other than to be immediately rushed back to the operating theater. I really thought that was it,” said Emerson. “I had no time to tell friends or family.”
“The rest is a bit of a blur, except I do remember a surgeon saying to me sometime the next day that he had successfully clipped the two parts of the colon together and halted the spurting blood vessel. Of course I remained doubtful and almost in a panic if I felt I was about to sneeze, as I still am. A few days later the results from the lab had come in. Thankfully, the polyp was not malignant.”
Emerson is now recovering from his surgeries with a new appreciation for a simple procedure that doctors routinely perform. “This experience made me realize the importance of having a colon screening,” he continued, “And, of donating blood.”
“After two weeks in the hospital, I am now recuperating in Sussex, having been told by doctors and surgeons that it will be some time before I fully get my strength back.”

Carl Palmer has told Classic Rock that, so far as he is concerned, Emerson, Lake & Palmer’s 40th anniversary reunion gig at this summer’s High Voltage Festival will be the trio’s final appearance together.
Words: Dave Ling We asked the drummer whether, after 12 years away, it was difficult to reactivate the beast.
“Well, for reasons I won’t go into it’s always hard to rev it up. We rehearsed for it for a month, which almost killed me. Not the physical side of it, just keeping interested. Me personally, I didn’t need a month. But that’s what we did, and when it came to the gig what you saw was what you got. That’s as good as it will ever be (again). Everyone seemed pretty happy with it, and I think that gig will be far as the three of us can take things.”
After so long away, standing at the side of the stage how did it feel to go on there and do it again? Was there some anxiety?
“Not from me, I’m not the nervous type. I play all the time,” Palmer responded. “Greg (Lake) and Keith (Emerson), on the other hand, were highly nervous and that was part of the problem though they both did the best they could. I looked at it not exactly as just another festival, but well… Asia have played more than 200 gigs since the reunion, and of course I’ve also got my own band. For me, like I said, it was the month’s rehearsal and not the gig that really frustrated me.”
If you missed the band’s High Voltage farewell then do not panic. A DVD of the event is being put together.
“We’ve been doing some overdubs and there will also be an audio CD, but it’s looking really good,” reveals Palmer. “And that’s about it, really. There are no plans to do anything else, not from my perspective anyway. I’ve let the other two know that. Being the 40th anniversary, it seemed a great way to finish things. Let’s just leave it there.”
Palmer tours the UK with Asia throughout December.

A dvd will be great. That Emerson /Lake mini tour was almost derailed due to nerves last Spring, so I can see why we may never get a full tour.

And horribly overpriced. I'd be more in for the DVD anyway, but priced right or as a combo I'd get the CD if it was actually produced and mixed well. The performance wasn't the band at their best though.

This proves that there really is a time when a band needs to call it a day.
I have every ELP CD, DVD there is but I don't know if I will get this one as musically it is no where near as dynamic as their hey day in the 1970s.

Let's revive this old thread with some news. (And I'll also merge our other ELP-related discussions into this thread at some point.) Quote: Carl Palmer Plotting ELP 50th Anniversary Celebration, Including Show With 'Some A-Listers'
Emerson, Lake & Palmer's 50th anniversary won't happen until 2020, but drummer Carl Palmer -- the sole surviving member of the prog-rock supergroup -- is already hatching plans to commemorate it.
"We're just now putting it together," Palmer tells Billboard, adding that the celebration will include more catalog re-releases as well as a special tribute concert. "I'm looking right now at putting a show together, probably in America, with some A-listers," Palmer reveals. "I can't tell you who they are, but in principle as a project it looks like it's going to go through." Palmer also hopes to revisit a documentary film that's been sitting on the sideline for some years.
"When we were signed to Sanctuary, ELP released a documentary that was six hours long," Palmer recalls. "That got lost in the wash, so we're going back and re-editing that and putting together another couple hours of documentary stuff that hasn't been seen."
ELP formed during 1970. Keyboardist Keith Emerson had previously played in the Nice, singer-bassist/guitarist Greg Lake came from King Crimson and Palmer was in Atomic Rooster; Emerson and Lake had initially approached Mitch Mitchell from the Jimi Hendrix Experience to play drums, while Palmer was suggested later by the group's manager. ELP played its first concert on Aug. 23, 1970, followed by a slot at the 1970 Isle of Wight festival six days later. ELP released 10 studio albums during its two tenures (1970-79 and 1991-98) and last performed together to commemorate its 40th anniversary at the 2010 High Voltage Festival in London. Emerson and Lake both passed away during 2016.
"I wake up every morning and say to myself, 'Thank God I'm here and I'm still playing," Palmer says. "The 50 years have gone by very quickly. When you have any form of success at all you don't really live it as it's happening 'cause things are moving so fast. You only appreciate it afterwards. So now I'm appreciating what we did way back then."
Palmer is keeping ELP's music alive since 2001 via his ELP Legacy shows, leading a trio that substitutes guitar for Emerson's keyboards in order to pay tribute to the group's songs, but with a different spin. "For me it's a mission," Palmer says. "I'm personally paying my own tribute to Greg and Keith, and we've managed to get (the music) across to a new generation of people in their 30s and 40s. Guys my age (68) at the concerts are bringing their sons, and their sons are understanding and buying the CDs, buying the DVDs and getting it. For me, it shows you how deep Emerson, Lake & Palmer runs -- there was a lot of quality there, if I say it myself. This music has been played by classical orchestras and jazz groups. It's worth keeping it going."
Palmer, of course, is also part of Asia, another on-and-off prog supergroup that's currently in hiatus. Singer-bassist John Wetton died in 2017, and the group has toured once since then, with Billy Sherwood (also of Yes) filling in.
"As far as Asia is concerned, there's nothing planned at the moment," Palmer ways, adding that he and keyboardist Geoff Downes "don't want to bury it completely. Depending on how meetings go, Asia might even be touring next summer. I'm going to link it and Carl Palmer's ELP Legacy into the same tour; I'm not sure how it's going to happen yet, but we'll make some proposals and see. I like the idea of doing some double-dipping." https://www.billboard.com/articles/colu ... elebration

Thanks Linda for posting this great news update. I had read in one of Keith Emerson's last interviews that their were some independent documentary film makers doing one on him. He stated he hadn't seen what they had but he did say they found stuff he personally never saw himself. I truly hope that project does complete or maybe folded into what Carl Palmer was stating in the re-edit ELP doc.
Either case I am so excited as for whatever can be released!

Not sure what chart that is, as the album hit #11 in the US and I think #4 in the UK.
ELP were massive and every album from the debut through Love Beach went Gold in the US.

The artists and labels indicate that it's a UK album chart. Maybe from one of the weeklies.

If there's a documentary about Carl with archival footage of ELP in it I'd definitely want to see that. I doubt I'm in the minority.

Quote: Keith Emerson’s famous Moog synthesizer being packed up last October after a six month run at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. This exhibit gave more than half a million fans the opportunity to get within inches of this iconic instrument. Note: this image was taken in October, stay safe. #keithemerson #emersonlakeandpalmer #themet #moogsynthesizer #moogmodular #analogsynth I was lucky to see the exhibit twice and gandered at Keith famous Moog for quite awhile. To think I saw him operate this same machine in 1977 at Madison Square Garden is stunning.
