my annual bitch post about nothing new coming out at the beginning of the year, for me anyway.

after perusing the first 2 pages of new releases and reissues here, i have found 2 albums, both in new and reissues that i am interested in:

the huey lewis and the news EP - weather

and the new matthews southern comfort.

sad, so sad.......i am truly truly old, and probably in the way

i'm sure most of you here have much more on your radar.....happy hunting in 2020, and may you all find all those rarities in the used bins that you have been looking for for years.

Feel like I say this to you every year, so once more won't hurt.

January and February have always been quiet release-wise. We have a handful of big numbers coming up, but little compared to what the rest of the year will look like. Don't check in to the glue factory before you see how the spring release calendar shapes up, okay?

I think the New Riders' Bear's Sonic Journal 5cd set looks pretty darn interesting.
I'm also a huge fan of Mike Finnigan, and I see a new Phantom Blues Band album on the way.

Deep breaths, Renny, I'm sure lots of stuff will be along in good time. Similar to my concert schedule, the first few months after Xmas are a real slow time. Bands tie new releases to tours, and tours happen in the summer and fall. As for re-issues and boxes, they're aimed at Xmas. but the first quarter? It's a wasteland.

Keep enjoying all the wonderful stuff you've got. Or, like me, work on the backlog of stuff that's piled up in the listening pile.

Last few years, I cut back looking ahead on upcoming release lists, just wanting to be surprised. A good third of my best-of list are artists I never heard of until their debut came out.

This post demonstrates why the "slow months" present a nice opportunity to discover new music. Aside from DTB, I'm not familiar with these artists. My new years resolution is to try out albums by artists I don't know when my go-tos aren't putting anything out.

and i agree totally, it just seems that every time i try something new i get truly disappointed.

and yes, believe me, i've tried.

i also like the drive-by truckers, but they seemed to have a lost a wee bit when jason isbell left them.
