Any hope that 2020 would be a good year is completely shot.

MGM Resorts International has pitched the NBA on an audacious proposal to house their athletes and necessary support staff to hold their season on a quarantined block on the Las Vegas Strip.
MGM has ownership stakes in more than a dozen hotel-casinos in Las Vegas, and per the report they envision a fully quarantined campus, essentially one full block of the Las Vegas Strip, where players would live and play out whatever schedule the leagues want.
Plus, the athletes would be joined by their families, league and broadcast media employees, as well as the staff and vendors needed to serve them, with access to lounges, spas, restaurants, gambling and all the other perks the resorts offer.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, commissioner Adam Silver wants to have seven-game series in each round of the playoffs.
Momentum for the NBA season to resume has increased in recent weeks, with concrete discussions of locations (primarily Las Vegas and Orlando), league-wide coronavirus testing, and more.
The league reportedly hopes to finish with a 70-game regular season, but if you add seven-game playoff series that's a lot of games in an increasingly limited timeframe. Silver wants to legitimize the eventual champion and avoid any asterisks, so it's a laudable goal.

Latest I heard now is a format using Disneyworld's ESPN complex, teams living there for the duration. Teams with no playoff chances may be excluded. If they do that, then they need to just go right to the playoffs, because teams schedules would change and bubble teams might have to play the Lakers instead of the Warriors, for instance, making their path harder.

In the case of the NBA and the NHL they should just go right to the playoffs since they will stuck in one city and finish this season. Then begin the reboot for 2020/21. The fans get a little action and the season gets a cap on it.
Baseball has a much different problem as we see, no deal so far.

AmicoHoops is reporting on Twitter Tuesday that an NBA GM told them the league was targeting Wednesday, July 22 as a target date to restart the league.
There are still a lot of meetings and conference calls that will take place and we still don't know much about the NBA's plan to return (finish the regular season, start with the playoffs, etc.), but July 22 sounds like a good target for the league to have for resuming play.
There's an excellent chance the action will take place in Orlando and it's looking more and more like we'll see the completion of the season in some form or fashion this year.

The NBPA’s player representatives approved the NBA’s 22-team format to complete the 2019-2020 season.
According to Shams Charania, all 28 player reps approved the plan. With the NBA Board of Governors approving it 29-1 on Thursday (Blazers), the NBA and NBPA will work through a number of details in the next week on the return in Orlando, but both sides are ready to move together toward the July 31 tip. Per Woj, the NBPA player leadership was informed of a plan to keep 1,600 people in Orlando bubble at any given time.
Player families will be allowed to arrive after first-round of playoffs — likely three members at a time. Additionally, Shams adds the NBPA informed players today that NBA/NBPA will conduct coronavirus testing every night during resumed season -- likely mouth swabs/light nasal swabs and not full invasive nasal swab.
If a player tests positive, there will be a minimum of seven days in quarantine. The NBPA also said that starting the 2020-21 season on Dec. 1 is an "unlikely" plan, which makes sense because of how short the offseason would be.

I hope they push back next season to January, and shorten the season (for good) to 70 games. They play too many, for too long. I love the NBA, but 82 games is nuts.

The NBA and NHL seasons are intolerable and MLB takes the cake. But no owners will lower the games played for seasons and kiss that revenue goodbye. The NBA should start on Christmas Day or Thanksgiving at the earliest.

The NBA is closing in on signing off on a second “bubble” in Chicago for the eight teams that were not invited to play in Orlando, according to Adrian Wojnarowski and Jackie MacMullan of ESPN.com.
The Chicago event will be enabling mini-training camps and subsequent games against other clubs with a target date of September. If these games are going to be televised, it could provide additional DFS action when the playoffs are either the conference finals or the conference semifinals.
