I thought I'd post this; Dame Vera Lynn passed away today at the unbelievable age of 103. My father was a big fan of her music, and it was on the house regularly. And while each era has it's own soundtrack, the evocative songs of hope she delivered during the Second World War has continued to endure as a shared reference point for that era. And now, in Britain, her song We'll Meet Again has been reclaimed as a way to show support during the Covid crisis
In today's climate of isolation, it helps to remember the power of music to bring people together, and the importance of the cultural touchpoints that bind a society together. So Rest in Peace, Dame Vera, and thank you for giving us some of those touchpoints, right to the end.
P.S. I do know more than one Pink Floyd mega-fan who bought Vera Lynn's albums, and were quite surprised that her music did not share the same mood as The Wall
