Seems like we all are finding some extra time on our hands. Yesterday, a weekday afternoon, I was in my dark basement/movie room at 3pm watching a rockumentary. That has never happened before. I know all this crap sucks, but watching a midday flick sure was fun. It was “Echo In The Canyon” about the mid ‘60’s Laurel Canyon music scene as folk went electric. Mixes in current day musicians who perform a concert of transformational tunes of that era. Jacob Dylan does the interviews with C,S and N, Lou Adler, Ringo and many other stars from the day. Never heard of it before yesterday. Really great. Btw....who the hell is Cat Power? Thought it would be nice to pass the ideas to each other. I saw John listed a couple on other threads. But having a list of ideas all in one place would be sweet. I know Imwan is a physical medium site, but these are peculiar times. Plus I got this up next: Right out of Jimmy’s collection.

I watched Jean Renoir's The Rules of the Game (Criterion) a couple nights ago and hope to finish the bonus features tonight (only got through about 1/2 of them last night, must be over 4 hours worth). I don't think it's a top 5 of all time film (was #4 on the last Sight & Sounds/BFI poll)...but it is a very good film that everyone should make an effort to see.
Next up will be Lord of the Flies (1963 version). I've always found that one a tough watch but it's such a fascinating book/film.

I guess I somehow missed the “Ice watches TV” and “Ice goes to the movies” threads. I guess I’m the current day “Emily Litella” “Never Mind!” Open mouth, insert shoe! If it wasn’t for stupid stuff I’d have nothing to say. I guess what’s another thread, Imwans full of them.

I watched Shin Godzilla last night on Blu-Ray, first time since seeing it in the theater back in 2016. Still enjoy it a lot, although there are a few elements of the new Godzilla design I don't like so much, especially compared to the current Legendary version, which I find about perfect. But the film itself is fun, and I hope there's a follow-up to it.

She was great, kinda sultry, in the movie.

Today at work, with nobody else here, I played the "Prince and the Revolution Live at the Carrier Dome, Syracuse, NY, March 30, 1985" DVD.
Pretty good show.

btw...in that movie Echoes In The Canyon, one of the guitar players featured in the band with Cat Power is a pal from the Cruise To The Edge named Fernando Perdomo (he of the bowler hat). Love to joke with him and his lovely girlfriend on the Cruise every year.

I'm finally getting around to watching this Game of Thrones stuff. We're into the 3rd season now. It's okay, I guess. I like some elements of it, others less so. When they were doing a ship burial today, I was thinking it might be funny if the archer missed with the flaming arrows.
And they did that, so I enjoyed it.

Last two nights my wife and daughter were playing their ukuleles. Which, btw, we’re the best Christmas and birthday gifts ever. I pulled out my Genz-Benz Shenandoah 100w acoustic guitar amp. One channel for her uke with the pickup and the other for the mic..Even had a boom stand for her. She’s 14 and thought she was a star.
So that left me and my son to our own devices. We decided to watch the “Kingsman” movies back to back nights. Quite a lot of fun. I hope the campiness was intentional. Either way a real nice father son hang time.

Been catching up on stuff on the DVR - finished off the Outsider (not sure why, but didn't fully get into this one), catching up on the new Cosmos series. Brockmire has returned for its final season. And I've set my DVR for any episodes of Whose Line Is It Anyway? because I'll throw that on while I'm playing NHL20. I got into the habit of watching it on Up (even though they censored the shit out of it - I mean, who bleeps 'damn' or 'hell' anymore?).

This afternoon, I watched the Roland Emmerich version of Godzilla, my first time doing so since opening day in 1998.
It's still just as awful as I remembered it being. Depressing.

I've really enjoyed RC stories over the years. The turtle is barely in it. It definitely focuses on the castaway. The cinematography is really nice at showing his sense of loneliness and isolation. I won't say more in case you watch it.

There's an 80s movie called "The Stepfather" that's been on cable a good bit recently. I always loved Jill Schoelen in that. So I looked up what else she might have been in that was on and found this movie. With Brad Pitt (to whom she was engaged for a period) and Donovan Leitch the younger doing his best Rick From Young Ones look. And I have to say, I know there are worse movies out there, but it's been a long time since I've seen one. This one was pretty brutal. The writing is bad, the plot is all over the place, and I think Pitt may have chipped a tooth chewing on some the scenery (he's gotten much better - and much better material). Martin Mull plays Schoelen's father in a side story that only serves to keep him out of the main story. If this is the kind of stuff she was being given, no wonder Schoelen quit acting.

DirecTV has a channel called Shorts that shows all short movies. I've been watching more of these lately. Some are really good, some are so-so. I don't think I've seen one that's bad, but there are some that have felt incomplete, likely because of the form. One of the cool things is that some of the movies are done in a style that probably wouldn't hold up over a 90+ minute film. They do a sort of series on Mondays with shorts featuring big names. One featured Lena Headey as a window dresser who interacts with a street artist (this was a no-dialogue film - great idea for 10 minutes, but for 90, it wouldn't have held up).
One I watched last week was "Picture Paris", which starred Julia-Louis Dreyfus and was directed by her husband, Brad Hall. She played a woman whose youngest child was going off to college, after which she and her husband were going to Paris. Instead, he reveals he's leaving her because he's having an affair with her best friend, which leaves her to go to Paris alone. A nice little comedic flick, and one which fit the short form (<30 minutes) beautifully.
